It is my hope that Judi Tepe’s “Slice of Life” column will continue to entertain readers with its gentle humor and insights, despite coming under fire from recent critics. This talented columnist has faithfully served the Edgewater community in numerous capacities over the years, and I found the remarks against her personal judgment unwarranted. I say, “write on, Judi!” I remain a fan.

Edgewater Resident

Dear Mr. Souza,

I have lived across the street from Judi for almost five years and have never, in various committees we have worked on at Edgewater, heard her insult anyone. In fact, she goes out of her way to make people feel at ease and always finds something positive to say.

It is a shame that Judi’s column has been perceived as it was by two of our residents. We are all “55 and older” with doctor’s appointments, diagnostic testing, and aches and pains as part of our daily lives. What a joy to read her columns, which are embellished with “tongue in cheek” humor we can all use a dose of from time to time. Edgewater is an active adult community, and Judi should have no problems finding themes for her articles. Getting upset by the “single male” article is as banal as a thin woman getting upset about her previous “bathing suit” article.

At this time of our lives, we are who we are, and if a few get upset because of what other people might think, it’s time to grow up. The clock is ticking…

I liked your article on single life, and I am a single lady!

About a week after I moved in, I was walking my dog and a gentlemen was walking toward me with his dog. We spoke for a few minutes, then a car pulled up and the lady said to him, “Hi, I was wondering if you needed a ride to the singles’ meeting?” Another car pulled up right behind the first, and the second lady asked the same question. He replied to both that he already had a ride to the meeting. I said hello to the ladies, but they acted as if I wasn’t there! I thought it was so funny…

Anyway, I guess my point is that your article for some wasn’t that much of an exaggeration.

Have a good day, and keep those articles coming.

Your neighbor,
Beverly Scittine
