Love lost and love found once more

By Brad Wagner

SUN CITY – As people enter their golden years, they must face the facts of diminishing health and lost loved ones, but also the hope for new beginnings. Sun City residents Dick and Rose Beu of N. 32B have been married for about seven years now. They met in a docÂŹtor’s office where Rose was the lead nurse. Dick was in auto sales at the time and would end up selling Rose and her family vehicles.

“The cute side of the story is that I sold her the car, two years later I married her, and I’m still servicing the car [he chuckles] … What do you think about that?” Dick said.

Dick and Rose had known each other only briefly from the doctor’s office, and Rose came to the wake of Dick’s first wife. Years passed. Eventually Dick worked up the nerve to ask Rose out to eat.

“She said no, she wasn’t ready for that,” Dick said.

Unperturbed, and following the salesman’s mantra of always following up with customers, Dick called her.

“Consequently, we went out on a few casual dates for about six months, and we ended up getting married in September of 2006,” Dick said. They went on a cruise for their honeymoon. “We love cruises,” said Dick.

After Dick’s first wife passed away in 2002, he bought a home in Sun City.

“It was a bachelor pad; it was perfect for me but not enough for two people,” Dick said.

Once Dick and Rose were married, his bachelor pad just would not do. “Our children convinced us that we needed an ‘our’ house,” Dick said.
So Rose found a home that she liked, they sold his bachelor pad, and purchased the home they live in now.

“We enjoy the new home that we have here in Sun City…. It fits our needs with the grandÂŹchildren,” Dick said.
When Dick and Rose first met, they only had four grandchildren and now have seven.

“I didn’t think that at my reÂŹtiring age I would be seeing too many newborns, but I am surprised,” Dick said. “It’s a great joy.”

Along with the new home and new love that they have found with one another, Dick and Rose have found many new friends and wonderful neighbors. Rose still works one day a week at the doctor’s office. Dick and Rose got married in Sun City, which at the time was a rare thing, ac-cording to Dick.

Seven years have passed since Dick and Rose tied the knot and their love is as strong as ever.

“We’re not worried about what’s coming up in the future,” Dick said.
