‘Green and Clean’ scheduled this weekend

HUNTLEY – Though the weather outside has been dreary, it is still spring. And as this season comes around every year, it coincides with one major event: spring cleaning.

The village of Huntley is jumping on that opportunity to promote a general clean-up by hosting the second annual “Green and Clean Huntley Day,” scheduled for this Saturday, April 27.

The one-day, multi-event celebration returns after Huntley officials saw the positive response it garnered last spring.

“It’s just a great event to kind of do your spring cleaning and help save our environment,” Barb Read, village management assistant, said.

While a majority of the events will be open to the public, a few require that the participant be a citizen of Huntley, including electronics recycling and the paper-and-document destruction.

“People have been asking for that off and on [the paper and document destruction], but we would always refer them to a local bank or the county who can handle that. We put extra money in our budget this year to do green and clean type of stuff, and we wanted to be able to provide this service this time around,” Read said. “And since it’s Huntley money, we want to make sure that only our residents will be able to use it.”

Patrons looking to utilize those services will have to prove their residency by showing a driver’s license or state ID. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Municipal Complex Parking Lot.

Additional events include a free movie–“Chimpanzee” at the Huntley Rec Center from 3 to 4:30 p.m.–a tour of the West Wastewater Treatment Plant on West Main Street, which is available between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., and a Culvers Kids coloring contest sponsored by Culvers, Huntley Village Hall, Huntley Library, and the Huntley Park District.

More information about the day, including a full list of events and a checklist of the items accepted for each “clean-up” event, is available at the village’s website, huntley.il.us, or by contacting Read at 847-515-5262.
