Buchheit has been a singer since she was a little girl. It wasn’t until she was 12 years old that her mom took her to voice lessons and they took her singing more seriously.

“I enjoy singing because it’s something to share with people,” Buchheit said. “It’s beautiful to the audience, and it’s universal to people of different languages.”

Upon entering high school, Buccheit’s mother encouraged her to get involved in pageants. Being on the shyer side, her mother thought it would be a good way to break out of her shell and meet more people.

Once in college, she joined the Miss America organization, which is the world’s leading provider of scholarship assistance for young women. She held titles in Ohio, where she went to school. Upon graduation, she continued to compete and eventually received the title of Miss Chicago 2012.
“I never dreamed I would be Miss Chicago,” Buchheit said. “There is a lot about being Miss Chicago that I love. Being able to mentor and be around younger girls, I find I am able to see myself in a lot of them.”

Buchheit plans to continue to compete so she can eventually become Miss America. She is extremely excited to be performing at Sun City next Tuesday.
“I love meeting new people, and every different group I perform for brings a new kind of energy. They are all very appreciative and kind,” she said.
To all of her fans, Marisa would like to say, “I am very grateful for the continued support, and I hope to inspire. Thank you.”
