Fortunate ‘Suns’

CCR tribute band heads to Sun City on Nov. 20

By Hannah Sturtecky

SUN CITY – Fortunate Sons will be coming to Sun City for the second time Thursday, Nov. 20 at the Drendel Ballroom. The band formed in 2009 and strives to emulate Creedence Clearwater Revival, a rock band that reached peak popularity in the 1960s and 70s.

“We capture their original music and set out to get it just right,” said Jeff Philippe, the band’s manager.

Each member of the Fortunate Sons imitates different members of the original C.C.R. band. Philippe portrays Drummer “Cosmo” Clifford, Bassist Dave Greene as Stu Cook, Guitarist Travis Bird replicating Tom Fogerty, and Jed Taylor plays guitar and sings vocals as John Fogerty.

“You see so many bands just going through the motions when they play, but that’s not us, we enjoy what we do,” Philippe said.

Reproducing period costumes and using vintage gear and instruments, the Fortunate Sons hope to recreate the feel of a C.C.R. band during their prime.

The event will be from 7:30 to 8 p.m. and tickets will be $10 per resident and $15 for the general public with an additional $5 at the door.

“The band is better than it’s ever been, we are always learning new tunes,” Philippe said. “We have a great variety of blues, country, rock and everything in between.”
