Grant Fritz (20), a long-distance triathlete of St. Charles, son of Gary Fritz, Sun City resident neighborhood 35, competed in Ironman Coeur d’Alene in Idaho on August 21. An Ironman triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim followed by a 112-mile bike ride and then a 26.2-mile (marathon run) to the finish. Grant was the winner of his age group, 18-24 years of age, finishing the in 10 hours and 22 minutes winning his age group by 30 minutes enabling him to qualify for the World Championships in Kona, Hawaii on October 8. Grant swam the 2.4 miles in 54 minutes, rode 112 miles in the mountains of Idaho in 5 hours and 42 minutes, and finished the 26.2 mile marathon run in 3 hours and 37 minutes. Grant is currently ranked 8th in the United States and 17th in the world for the 18-24 age group. Grant aims to place in the top 5 at the World Championship this October for his age group.
