On July 26, there were 167 driveways hosting parties and having a great time in Sun City, Huntley. Neighborhood Committee volunteers organized led by Bill Berendt, Neighborhood 10 Captain, coordinated another Sun City 20th Anniversary celebration event: The Largest Community-Wide Driveway Party, Drinks on the Drives, (DOD).

“Eleanor and Steve Lindskoog offered to host this event for this neighborhood,” Berendt said. “Our neighborhood is very active we have about 8 to 10 events a year with our neighbors.”

Eleanor said, “I was told about the event and we offered to host it. Our neighborhood has DOD every other Monday. We enjoy it. We have a very active and sociable neighborhood.”

Sun City hoped to establish a Guinness World Record for the largest of such events. To validate participation, those who attend were required to sign in, and the group needed to take a photo. The overall event was also to be validated by a drone fly-over of each party.

Neighborhood 26 hosted at Judy and Noel Hannon boasted 68 neighbors in attendance.

The origin of the Guinness World Records started as an idea for a book of facts to solve arguments in pubs. Now, it is known as the keeper of record-breaking achievements.

Linda Campbell of Neighborhood 18 stated, “I’ll take this on. We have 125 homes in this neighborhood and we have 6 driveways hosting tonight. Three of our close friends are also hosting. The hard part was not all of us getting together and some of the neighbors had to choose where to go for the evening.”

“We have 68 of our neighbors attending,” he said.

Betsy and Tony Nicosia attended Neighborhood 26’s Drinks on the Driveway.

Tony said, “We had a great time, as usual, Neighborhood 26 rocks. And with so many in attendance both the new and pioneers, we are sure Sun City Huntley will make the Guinness Book. Thanks to Noel and Judy for their hospitality. This is a great place to live.”

Rita Schank said, “Even if we didn’t break a Guinness record, we set a world record in friendship, fun and wonderful relationships that have grown closer and closer since our Neighborhood 26 was established in 2006.”

While the event was anything but a disappointment, the drone had a mishap with a tree around 6 p.m. and couldn’t get to all areas of the event. However, before the mishap, successful footage of the community was recorded.
