BY-LAWS ARTICLE 3.4

The motion to amend Article 3.4 of the By-Laws was discussed. The amendment would add the word “consecutive” to the By-Laws which would remove the term limits included in the By-Laws as they now stand.

Board member Vito Benigno commented that he had received email from residents on the amendment. Comments included “the change means a small group of people control the positions” and “it’s an old boy network of Board members and members on various board committees” in control.

Board member Dottie Harrison reported an informal survey that showed “43 residents against the amendment and 29 in favor.”

Board member Art Ryden commented that “the lack of board candidates is of concern.”

Board President Marilynn Berendt added that “there will be five board openings in the next election and that in the last seven elections the results in 5 were by acclimation.”

The board’s vote was 5 No and only Berendt voting in favor.

Roger Lambert, of Neighborhood 12, was elected to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Barry Newman. Lambert’s term will expire at the end of 2022. Also, the Board announced the appointment of Rich White, of Neighborhood 36, to the Finance Committee.

SATISFACTION SURVEY RESULTS

Deanna Loughran presented the results of the recent resident satisfaction survey. Highlights included “1,888 responses were received. The 1,888 was higher than in any of the past 3 years.”  According to Loughran, “the report showed that the average age of Sun City residents is 72 years old and that 12% of residents are still employed either part-time or full-time.”

She continued that “thirty percent of the respondent have lived in Sun City for more than 15 years.”

In general, all of the amenities received good or excellent ratings. The notable exception was the Sun City Facebook Page that received a 68% N/A rating.

UKRAINE SUPPORT RIBBONS

The Board asked Loughran for direction in response to requests that residents be permitted to put ribbons around parkway trees as a way to show support for Ukraine. Loughran pointed out that such a display “is not permitted in the by-laws.”

The next Sun City Board meeting is scheduled for May 25.
