Sun City Huntley’s Prairie Singers will perform its spring concert, “A Season of Hope,” on Saturday, June 4, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of Willow Creek Community Church in Huntley.

More than 70 resident singers and musicians of Sun City Huntley will join together to produce some truly great choral music. This group has been a part of the entertainment activities of the Sun City community for more than 22 years.

Tickets will be on sale from 2-5 p.m. on Tuesdays: May 10, 17, 24, 31 at the Main Entrance of the Prairie Lodge. Advanced ticket prices: Adult tickets: $10. Child (under 12) $3.

Barth invites any resident to come and join the Prairie Singers, “If you love to sing come join us. No auditions are required. We rehearse at 6 PM on Tuesday evenings from the beginning of March for our June spring concert and from the beginning of September for our December Holiday concert. Rehearsals are in the Birch/Cedar Room at the Fountain View entrance of Prairie Lodge. Should you want additional information, contact me at 630-707-1221 or davidabarth@comcast.net.”

This spring’s concert will be led by Director of Music David Barth. Barth started as the Director of the Prairie Singers in fall of 2017. He previously achieved local acclaim over 20 years as the Founder and Director of The Spirit of Life Chorus, an ecumenical Christian chorus comprised of dedicated Christian singers from throughout the Chicago Metropolitan area.

The choral performance’s theme is hope. The concert includes a selection of songs and is a nostalgic wall of sound that reflects the hopes and wishes of not only the Prairie Singers and residents, but most of the world. The Music Committee has selected a stunning selection of orchestrated songs for the concert performance.

Barth said, “The concert’s starting selection is ‘Another Op’nin’, Another Show Song’ by Cole Porter. There are some very familiar selections; ‘Over the Rainbow’, ‘Seasons of Love’, and a selection that captures the theme completely, ‘What the World Needs Now.’”

There is one particular song that Barth wants to highlight. Barth said, “I want the audience to listen carefully to the words in the last song before intermission, ‘One Song’ by Mark Hayes. It’s a selection that few people may be familiar with, but it captures the heart of the concert.”

The second half of the concert has a variety of songs, Barth said.

“We will sing ‘Circle of Life’ from the Lion King, plus a variety of songs everyone will recognize. The closer will be ‘God Bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood.’”
