Clippers capture gold

By Christine Such

The Six County Senior Games celebrated its 40th Anniversary on Monday, July 25, 2022. 500 participants took part in 15 different events this year. On Wednesday, July 13th SunCity residents traveled to Elk Grove Park District to compete in the Senior Softball Event.

Glenn Groebli, coach of the Sun City Clippers said, “The SunCity Clippers, 70+ team, has competed in this softball event for 13 years. The 2022 team continued the winning ways by capturing the gold medal for the 4th time in a row and the 11th time in 13 years.”

What is the secret to your success in winning the gold?

Groebli said, “I have been fortunate to always be able to put together a team that first knows how to play defense and then be able to produce runs offensively. While the players have changed over the years, the desire is still there to represent SunCity away from its home field.”

Congratulations to the 2022 SunCity Clippers for taking the gold; Norm Richter, Fred Dryden, Bob Lodewych, Scott Phillips, Phil Haugens, Tom Bishoffer, Ed Fabro, Frank Yacono, Jack Sietsema, Ron Tenggren, Jim Cremin, and Wayne Krueger.

Groebli said, “The team is already looking forward to the 2023 Senior Games.”
