Every time I walk into the Prairie Lodge or the Meadow View Lodge I cringe when I see the “no guns allowed sign.” I know the Board of Directors had our welfare in mind when they voted to put up all those signs in 2013 but times have changed. That sign means that our facilities are “Gun Free Zones” but in today’s environment Gun Free Zones have become an open invitation to criminals to come in because the people inside are not able to protect themselves. If criminals obeyed the laws, we would not need to worry about them bringing guns into our facilities but by definition criminals do not obey laws. My personal fear is that a mentally unstable individual with a gun will enter one of our facilities and start shooting. Removing those signs may get that person to think before entering that someone inside may be armed. You may say that it would never happen here, but we never thought it would happen in schools, churches, theaters and workplaces. While I am not advocating that people start carrying guns into our facilities, there are men and women in our community that are legally licensed to carry concealed firearms for their protection and the protection of family and friends. These signs prohibit our residents, that are legally licensed, to carrying a concealed firearm into our facilities for their protection and our protection. Let’s remove the signs and make Del Webb Sun City Huntley Prairie View and Meadow Lodges a safer place for all of us in our community.

I know it is an unpopular view but I agree with Mr. Gade. The “No Guns Allowed” stickers on buildings, offices, all types of businesses, but most importantly schools, churches, theaters, etc. are primary targets for those with evil in their heart, or a imbalance in right and wrong. But why? Because they have many defenseless people confined to a space, because there is no one to stop them, because the media gives each of these incidents so much exposure, they want to be the next bad person to be “glorified” by the media. The only people who obey the stickers in these places are the legal, responsible firearm owners. I would feel safer in a facility filled with legal, responsible firearm carriers than any of the places stated above .Do you really believe that the sticker will stop someone who is not all with it? Really? History, the facts, and common sense says different.
