Stingrays presented 9th-year charity auction

By Joanie Koplos

The Stingrays Swim Club recently announced their 9th year auction celebrated by their charter club’s members and guests. Nick Koplos once again served as Master Auctioneer on Saturday, May 13. All present were invited to enjoy the afternoon’s exciting venue of activities!  This year’s first club chosen charity was “Habitat for Humanity of McHenry County,” which builds affordable housing for families in greatest need. Our second club chosen charity was “Wings,” which provides independence for adults and children escaping violence and abuse.

As is the custom, all of this year’s auctioned items were contributed through members’ own donations. They included edible goods, such as a homemade pie and two casserole dishes, that were served throughout the afternoon with other culinary delights.  Other non-edible donated goods included a Chicago Cub Championship Photo printed by the Chicago Tribune in photo plate form and two personally Stingray authored and illustrated autographed mystery books. Outstanding service auction items donated included a professionally taught Art Lesson in a member’s home, personally hosted and home-cooked meals, a guided summer visit to an 1888 Lake Geneva Mansion, and a guided summer foot tour on a section of the shores of Lake Geneva.

Nancy Cihlar, Vice-President of the Stingrays Charter Club, added this comment “Started as a lark (originally through the information provided by a member, Margaret Liedtke, about 10 years ago), the Stingrays Service Auction was designed to augment our club’s treasury and fulfill the Stingrays’ goal to support charities in our community. The auction has taken on a “life of its own” as it also fosters camaraderie within the club and provides our members’ opportunities to bond and showcase talents outside the pool…”

A large “Thank You” goes out to our President, Irene Camp, and to our Stingrays’ Auction Committee, along with their helpers, who made this event possible!
