Prairie Singers prepare for their spring show with new director at the helm

By Christine Such

Sun City’s Prairie Singers welcomed their new director, Denise Caliendo, with a beautiful table set, ‘Welcome’ cake, and some other sweet treats.

What brought her to Sun City?

Caliendo said, “I got to know the members working with them last October to prepare for them for the holiday concert. I was asked to be the director here this year and I started in March.”

Fred Joob, President of Prairie Singers said, “We are excited to have Denise here to help us prepare for our spring concert. The performance is entitled ‘Thank You for The Music!’ will center on a variety of old favorites.”

A variety of songs will be featured in the show.

Joob said, “We have titles that many residents here are very familiar with like ‘Moon River,’ ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ some Broadway medleys, and some patriotic songs. It’s a family-friendly show with some musical surprises.”

The Singers have been working hard for their showcase.

Caliendo said, “We started in March with weekly rehearsals. Most of the songs have been in our files. We have a few soloists from our group and some dancers. It’s a great variety of music.”

The show will be visually appealing, too.

“There will be great graphics to go along with the theme, orchestrated by the church’s technical team. The venue has great acoustics and seating for 1,000,” Joob said.

RD Holloman said, “We have a live band to accompany our program.

Steve Fornek’s band has accompanied other events for clubs here in Sun City.”

“Thank you for the Music” is scheduled for Saturday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at Willow Creek Church of Huntley at 3 Huntley Road. Tickets are on sale at Prairie Lodge in front of the library on May 23 and 30 from 1-4 or 5–6 p.m. outside the Birch Room.
