By Christine Such

Jim Eggers, Sun City resident and Executive Director of Huntley Community Radio, said, “Here at the mighty 101.5 we are always looking for new talent. He’s four years old and won the DJ for a day contest run by the Huntley public library. Lochlan Pedersen redeemed his prize and got to cohost a show with 101.5 FM Huntley Community Radio.”

Pedersen’s show aired on Saturday, September 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and Thursday, September 7, from 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. on 101.5 FM.

Eggers said, “He’s the coolest kid. He’s outgoing and very comfortable behind the microphone.”

How did this happen?

Eggers said, “Ron Giordano hosts ‘Around Town’ and he [hosted] Doug Cataldo, head of Marketing and Communications for Huntley Public Library, and they came up with the idea ‘D.J. for the day.’ I called and talked to his mother, Kathryn, informing her that Lochlan had won the contest. She told me he was four. I did not see that coming.”

On the show, Giordano asked, “Why do you want to be a D.J.?”

Pedersen said, “Because I like sound and light, and making stuff is my favorite stuff, too.”

Pedersen played and announced his six favorite songs on the program, of which he knew all the words.

The show was a success.

Pedersen said, “It was fun. I play D.J. at home too. I ask Alexa to play my favorite songs.”

Pedersen attends Huntley Early Childhood Center.

Lochlan said, “My teacher played for the whole class and it was so fun.”

Pedersen’s father, Simon Pedersen, said, “All across the country we had relatives and friends listen to the show.”

Lochlan has an older sister and an infant brother who listened in as well.

“My sister laughed. We listened to it about three times,” Lochlan said.

Kathyrn, Lochlan’s mother said, “He had the best time and can’t wait to go back.”

Where did Pedersen get his love of music?

Simon said, “I love music, and Lochlan has good taste in music. He sets us his own studio a mixer and a recorder and a light show.”

While Pedersen enjoyed his time in the studio, he did not reveal if he would co-host a show Huntley Community Radio again in the future, keeping fans waiting.

When asked, Pedersen said, “Maybe.”

The show is available to stream NOW huntleyradio.com/hcr/around-town/
