Sun City celebrates 25th annual golf cart and car parade

By Christine Such

This year, Sun City is marking a significant milestone: the 25th anniversary of the Golf Cart, Classic Car, and Car Parade.

The Fitness & Lifestyle Department, Northwestern Medicine, and the Lifestyle Committee have come together to plan a memorable celebration: Sun City’s Summerfest on June 21. This is not just an event; it’s a community gathering where everyone, including family and friends, is welcome to join in on the fun.

Save the date, because rain or shine, residents are invited to participate in this year’s parade with their car, golf carts, or classic cars. There will be prizes. The top three decorated golf carts, decorated cars, and decorated classic cars will receive recognition. You must register your vehicle. Applications are available at all service desks and on the Sun City website.

Melissa Hornick, Lifestyle manager, said, “We will accept registration beginning at 10 a.m. at Prairie Lodge Fountain View Circle Drive.

Hornick issued a challenge to Sun City: “Mission not Impossible is to see if we can break our parade record of over 60 vehicles.”

Get ready for a day full of fun and laughter. From snapping memories at the 25th anniversary photo backdrop, to challenging your friends to lively lawn games, and enjoying playful temporary tattoos, there’s something for everyone.

For food, treat yourself to a delicious lunch from the Stix & Noodles food truck: a classic Chicago hot dog and chips for just $5, along with their full menu. The Rainbow Cone food truck will also join the celebration with sweet, colorful treats. Also enjoy this year’s music by The Band Sundance.

The parade and festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. The 3.1-mile Parade kicks off at Prairie Lodge, travels down Del Webb Boulevard to Cold Springs Drive, then loops back along Del Webb Boulevard to finish back at Prairie Lodge.

The Celebration will continue with the chance to explore the Railroad Club’s outdoor display — weather permitting — and their indoor exhibit, beginning at 2 p.m. At the same time, a pool party at Prairie Lodge is scheduled to kick off and will move indoors if the weather doesn’t cooperate. No matter what the skies bring, the planning committee has ensured you’ll have a great time, rain or shine.

Stay updated with the latest event information through the e-blasts. No registration is required to attend.
