Sun City residents have always been passionate about participating in events that help our neighbors. Notable locations where many residents volunteer is the Grafton Food Pantry, the Huntley Rotary Club, the Citizens Police Academy, and the Lions Club.
There are two upcoming events for Sun City residents to practice their generous spirit. The first event is the third annual Brat and Brew Fest on Saturday, August 2, from 2-8 p.m. It is held at and sponsored by Sew Hop’d Brewery and Taproom. Enjoy food, brews, and music all day while supporting the Grafton Food Pantry and the Huntley Lions Club.

Suzy will provide entertainment at 2 p.m. Suzy has been playing solo for various venues and has recently recorded her very first professional CD, called Rainbow, which is available for purchase on her website.
There will be a Culver’s custard eating contest at 5 p.m., 50/50 raffles, and a big prize raffle. Rock Band Milhouse will perform at 6 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and be ready to have fun.
If you are unable to attend the August 2 event, you can still support the community by contributing to the Sun City Huntley’s Neighborhood Advisory Council Food Drive on Tuesday, August 12, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drop your food and monetary donations at the Drive-Thru Circle at Fountain View.
What’s new for this year? A representative will be at Meadowview Lodge from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. to accept monetary donations and gift cards. For every dollar donated, the Pantry has $8.00 purchasing power at the food bank.
Please consider the Pantry’s greatest needs of items that cannot be purchased through the food bank: paper goods (toilet papers, tissues, paper towels, napkins), personal care items (feminine hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, razors, soap), cleaning supplies, and baking supplies.
Harriet Ford, president of the Grafton Pantry board of directors, said, “We are currently serving over two-hundred local families, and over seven-hundred individuals, on a regular basis. The need continues to grow. The NAC Drive provides us with many essential items that are in short supply. We are so grateful to the NAC organization and the residents of Sun City for their incredible generosity.”
