Sun City’s Strategic Planning Advisory Committee (SPAC) is providing the community with an opportunity to give feedback on walking and biking paths on Sunday, August 17, in Drendel Ballroom at 6:30 p.m.
Dennis O’Leary, Chair of SPAC, emphasized, “The Strategic Planning Committee values your feedback on walking and biking paths within the community. Your participation is integral to our long-range plans for Sun City. Come and share your opinions.”

O’Leary is also a member of the Village of Huntley Plan Commission. The Plan Commission advises and makes recommendations to the Village Board regarding the implementation of the Village’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan, planned unit developments, zoning text and map amendments, special use permits, subdivisions of property in the Village, and unincorporated subdivisions that fall within the Village’s 1.5-mile planning jurisdiction.
SPAC, working in collaboration with the Village, touts a deep commitment to its sustainability initiatives, striving to cater to both cyclists and pedestrians. The primary goal for many communities seeking to create walkable and bikeable towns is to provide residents with increased access to popular local destinations, such as libraries, parks, and other open spaces.
O’Leary said, “We will also give the residents an introduction to the Strategic Planning Advisory Committee with a review of its charter and purpose. But, most importantly, the Strategic Planning Committee is looking for residents’ thoughts as to what constitutes paths and trails. Are they the same thing? What are you, our Sun City residents, looking for in a path or trail? What is your purpose for using them? How often and in what weather do you use them? Do you use them as a group or generally as an individual? And, of course, anything else that would assist the Committee in improving the amenity, and in working with the Village to assist in that improvement.”
On the day of the meeting, residents will have the opportunity to provide comments following the guidelines for board meetings.
