Sun City Lions Club hosts mobile health screening unit

By

Since 2007, the Lions of Illinois Foundation Mobile Screening Unit Program has been traveling throughout Illinois and conducting screening for hearing loss and retinal eye diseases. Each year, local Lions Clubs host the Mobile Screening Unit within their communities.

The Huntley area Lions Club is hosting this mobile unit on September 30, allowing Sun City residents to have their hearing and eyes checked conveniently. A Sun City resident generously donated $500 to cover the expenses. The van is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and staffed by trained professionals to screen for retinopathy (diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of preventable blindness) and hearing loss.

Joan Citro, President of the Huntley Area Lions Club, said, “Huntley Lions are excited to bring audio-visual screening services to Sun City. This program will provide our residents with valuable information regarding their vision and hearing health. We want to thank the Sun City Board for supporting this event.”

Eighty percent of all visual impairment can be prevented or cured. The first step to prevention is awareness. The second step is early detection through vision screening. Around the world, Lions partner with medical professionals and community leaders to screen young children, primary school students, and adults to identify those at risk for vision loss. Early identification leads to timely referral, professional treatment, and the assurance of improved or restored sight.

There are 50 slots available for the screening on Tuesday, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The van will be parked in front of the Fountain View entrance at Prairie View Lodge. The registration code for this Free event is LcV42. Registration is required.
