The Pencil and Palette Charter Club is hosting the Colors of Sun City second annual gallery exhibition on Saturday, September 20, from 1–5 p.m. and Sunday, September 21, from 1–4 p.m. The exhibition will take place in the Birch and Cedar rooms at Fountain View, Prairie Lodge.
The gallery will be a vibrant showcase of Sun City’s artistic diversity, featuring over 140 original artworks from more than 40 talented artists of the club. The exhibition will be a rich tapestry of artistic expression, with works in acrylics, oils, pastels, colored pencil & graphite drawings, watercolor, and collage.
Linda Wadman, vice-president of the club, says, “The exhibit is free to all Sun City residents accompanied by live and recorded music, free appetizers, and a mocktail bar at a nominal cost. There will be some live entertainment by the Traveling Ukuladies. The attendance at our inaugural exhibition was beyond expectations. We hope that this one exceeds our expectations again.”
The work will be for enjoyment, but not necessarily for purchase.
Barbara Schramm, president of the Pencil and Palette charter club, said, “Art will not be sold at this gallery, but you may contact artists directly after the show to purchase artwork. Ask anyone wearing a Pencil and Palette apron for more information during the exhibition. To fund this exhibit, donations at the door will be gladly appreciated.”
One of the highlights of the event will be a raffle of original artworks created by Carolyn Gordon, past president of the Pencil and Palette club. These unique pieces, reflecting Gordon’s experience teaching watercolor classes in Florida, will be a treasure to the lucky winners.
Wadman encourages everyone to participate, saying, “You might just walk away with a beautiful, large-scale, original watercolor at a fraction of its gallery price.”
Gordon said, “Please bring small bills as we can only accept cash for raffle tickets and the mocktail bar.”
Donations will be gratefully accepted at the entrance. The impact of past donations is tangible; in June 2025, members participated in a fundraiser at Culver’s Huntley to support art programs for the Huntley School District.
Wadman added, “Thanks to residents’ support, Leggee Elementary art teachers received nine-hundred art journals valued at five-hundred dollars for students. Additional funds raised will be used for new equipment for our club.”
