This November, the annual Flower Show, organized by the Huntley Area Lions Club, will celebrate its twelfth year. Since then, it has grown in attendance and popularity. This year, the show takes place on Wednesday, November 5, from 7-9 p.m.
Carol Didricksen, chair of the event said, “This year, we have three florists creating and crafting beautiful floral arrangements in person.”
The event, which was born out of the community’s desire to support the Huntley Lions Club, has remained true to its roots.
Didricksen said, “The format has not changed as it is so well-received and eagerly attended by our community. One-hundred percent of the profit is reinvested in our community, with the Lions’ primary focus being on sight and sound. Helen Keller said we are the knights for the blind, and the Huntley Area Lions Club is indeed here to serve.”
The event is held at Huntley High School, located at 13719 Harmony Road. Jim O’Connor, Lions Club marketing and communications specialist, said, “Tickets are $15 and available at the door. The Flower Show promises to be a fun evening.”
Periwinkle Florist, located in Cary, Illinois, Countryside Nursery & Flowers in Crystal Lake, and Renee’s of Ridgefield will demonstrate the fundamentals of flower design to create elegant pieces.
Didricksen emphasized the unique aspects of the event, saying, “Watching the florists create their arrangements in real time is not only fun but also inspiring. Plus, Jennifer Hunt from JH Events and Flowers will be our emcee, providing a detailed description of each arrangement and answering audience questions.”
The cost of admission includes an automatic entry into the raffle. Each floral arrangement created on stage for the audience is immediately raffled off. The winner is announced and the arrangements are then displayed and picked up at the end of the show.
Didricksen adds, “We have Huntley High School athletes walk each arrangement around the HHS Auditorium so the audience can see them up close and personal.”
O’Connor adds, “The winners must be present to win. All proceeds will support Lions Club projects, including assistance to those with vision and hearing impairments. By attending the Flower Show, you will be directly supporting charitable initiatives and creating positive change in our community.”
There are also treats for each attendee. At intermission, each attendee can get a complimentary bottle of water along with a beautifully-decorated flower cookie.
Tickets can be purchased at the door or by contacting Carol Didricksen (chair) at 630/926-6005. Didricksen advises, “Please know once you attend, you’ll love it and be back the next year.”
