Rotary Club coat drive delivers warmth to adults and children

By

The Rotary Club completed a very successful coat drive for the community this season.

Jim Ulszer, Sun City resident and member of the Rotary club, said, “The coat drive with Grafton Food Pantry grew out of our regular pickup from Grafton boxes at Heartland Bank, Brunch Cafe, Park District Cosman Center, Huntley Library, and BMO bank. It started about three years ago, after they had been providing coats to children for several years, but felt the need to support the parents as well.”

The Rotary Club asked for donations: “This winter, help bring comfort and dignity to adult patrons of the Grafton Food Pantry by donating a new coat or contributing $25 to our coat fund.”

The coat drive ended on November 15. Businesses in the area provided drop-off locations: Huntley Chamber, Drendel’s Corner Mobile, and LMM Accounting.

Ulszer said, “We were able to provide 53 new coats to Grafton Food Pantry this year for their adult patrons. That is the largest number in the past three years. Thanks to the generous donations from the Tennis Club of Sun City. Cathy Johnson from Hansen Heating and Cooling, Karla Dobbeck, and many other individual donors helped with the event.”

The Rotary Club continues its community support with the Running of the Elves on December 6, a fundraiser for scholarships. The Club invites everyone to save the date for the March 7 Murder Mystery Dinner, in partnership with the Huntley Park District, supporting a new pollinator garden project.
