This is the time of year when headlines, whether online or in print, appear recommending “Best Holiday Gifts for 2025” (Amazon) or “The 48 Most Popular Christmas Gifts of 2025” (Good Housekeeping). Besides these commercial sites, many health-related sites, such as Prevention magazine or Prevention.com publish holiday gift recommendations featuring popular products with a wellness focus. Even stores and websites, from Barnes and Noble to Best Buy, offer gift lists featuring products to inspire healthy habits.
With such encouragement, many shoppers are slanting holiday gift-buying away from standard, often unhealthy treats or traditional, often unneeded items towards presents that promote health and bring lasting “comfort and joy.”
Some potential pitfalls of wellness gifts
Beneficial as these wellness gifts may be, there can be some potential challenges when selecting them. To avoid inappropriate gifting, experts recommend doing a little research, so you know your giftee’s interests and tastes. No sense presenting that special yoga mat to someone who doesn’t practice yoga or purchasing a fancy box of health-promoting teas- only to discover the potential receiver is someone who always opts for coffee.
Even worse, no matter how popular that cute little traveling mini scale is, diet books and scales or hand weights are frowned on as gifts because they come wrapped in an unspoken message that can be interpreted as advising action (lose weight! exercise more!) creating resentment or guilt instead of gratitude. Better options might be stretching bands, mobile electronic massagers or a certificate for a massage.
Books good options for holiday wellness gifts
Holiday gifts can promote wellness but subtly. Books can be good choices if the giftee is a reader and the books inspire rather than nag, such as a biography of an admirable individual who discovers the joy of exercise. Pedaling on Purpose by Ken Rogers and Steve Anderson is one example, the story of how two friends, with little biking experience, minimal training and no real source of funding pedaled across America, fulfilling their dream by supporting an unheard of Make-A-Wish of Minnesota charity.
Both the Barnes and Noble Gift Guide or Amazon’s list, Books: Best Sellers in Health and Wellness are good resources for selecting good book choices encouraging wellness.
Half a dozen especially popular wellness gifts in 2025
Here are six of the most popular wellness gifts this year: aromatherapy, bath bombs, calendars, (especially large font), meditation or mindfulness cards, stainless steel water bottles with marking to encourage drinking more water, weighted face masks or blankets, and, don’t forget, do-it- yourself gifts.
If spending time in the kitchen isn’t a problem, channel your creativity and gather some fruit (dried or fresh) add some nuts and whatever other healthy foods you can think of for an impressive holiday basket. Consider venturing away from the produce section, finding some ancient grains or other whole grains and exotic seeds, mustards, etc. Prepare a festive, savory collection, instead of the traditional plate of cookies.
Even a festive dish of raw veggies with a healthy dip can be a much-appreciated gift in this season of indulgent dining.
Wellness gifts are all around. Have fun while encouraging health and wellness this holiday season. With a little research and creativity, may you find just the right health-promoting holiday gifts for your family and friends.
