The Sun City Strategic Planning Committee (SPAC) is hosting a special Town Hall. The meeting will discuss the future of the land next to Sun City’s Veterans Memorial Softball Field. Residents are encouraged to attend on April 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Drendel Ballroom to help shape the next chapter for these community assets.
The committee values feedback from community members.
Lars Cederquist, SPAC committee member, said, “Recent survey results show seventy-seven percent of six-hundred and thirty respondents have not used the area in the past year. Additionally, sixty percent have never used it, twenty percent used it a few times a year, ten percent use it weekly, and about two percent use it daily.”
Funds are already earmarked in the 2026 reserve budget. The project focuses on renovating the area where the horseshoe pits and volleyball court currently stand. Committee leaders say bricks-and-mortar work will not begin until the community weighs in.
Dennis O’Leary, SPAC Chair, said, “We received crucial feedback from residents during our last SPAC town hall regarding the trails, and we are eager for the community to participate and voice their opinions once again.”
The upcoming Town Hall is a critical step in the data-gathering phase. This phase will synthesize feedback from the Board, chartered clubs, staff, and resident surveys.
Ken Rotter, SPAC member and chair of the Ad Hoc Committee for the project, said, “The softball field is not included in this project.”
David Berg, Facilities and Grounds Manager, said, “There are some improvements that are planned for Veterans’ Field. We will be addressing drainage issues, updating seating areas and making needed improvements to the shed this year.”
By strategically using reserve funds, the committee aims to protect property values. They also want to maintain the quality of life that draws residents to Sun City.
“By working together, we will ensure this land stays a community asset for generations,” Rotter said.
Residents are invited to the April 9 Town Hall for a community discussion, featuring light refreshments. For those unable to attend in person, the Sun City Eblast will provide details on how to submit feedback remotely.
