Huntley High School students compete for Jameson’s winning dish

A five-student culinary team from Huntley High School took top honors in a local recipe contest, earning a week-long feature on Jameson’s menu.

Student chefs Jacob Sherman, Jack Breutzmann, Dominick Stallone, Colin Ritter, and Jayden Tiedje created the winning dish: the “Ja-La-peno Business Burger,” served with a side of seasoned Cajun fries. The flavorful burger is served on a toasted pretzel bun.

This marks the second consecutive year that Jameson’s Restaurant has partnered with the high school culinary class to incorporate the contest’s winning recipe directly onto its menu. The collaboration offers students real-world industry experience while giving back to the school’s program.

Walter Myszkowski, manager at Jameson’s, explained that the restaurant “will donate 20% of all sales from the winning burger directly to the Huntley High School Culinary Department.”

Reflecting on the partnership, Huntley High School Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department Chair Nick Wedoff noted the immense pride surrounding the achievement.

“They are all just excited about the opportunity, and very pleased to have their creation on the menu at Jamesons,” Wedoff said.

Myszkowski is thrilled to welcome the community to taste the students’ hard work.

“The winning burger will be featured on Jameson’s restaurant menu from November 11 to 15, from open to close every day,” Myszkowski said. “The students who won the burger contest will get their winning recipe burgers free.”

The winning student team wants local Sun City residents to try the burger and judge the flavors for themselves.

Huntley High School culinary teacher Chef Joanne Thomas guides the students’ culinary success. An internationally-traveled chef, Chef Thomas splits her time sharing her expertise with high schoolers and teaching Sun City classes. Right after the Jameson’s showcase concludes, Sun City residents can register for her next class, “Elevate Your Thanksgiving Table” (Course LSC2542), on Monday, November 16, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the MVL Oak & Elm Rooms.

To support the culinary department and try the award-winning burger, visit Jameson’s at 12860 Del Webb Blvd. in Huntley. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Thursday from 12-8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 12 to 8:30 p.m., and Sunday from 12-7 p.m.
