Are you ready for it?

Sun City Concert Band is going to Rock the Ages on August 20. Rob Lindsey, President of the Concert Band charter club, said, “The performance will be a lively, fun concert. We are celebrating our 21st anniversary and our director, Pam Jorgensen’s 10th anniversary.”

Forty-five Sun City residents, a testament to the band’s growth, will perform at the concert.

Lindsey said, “The Sun City Band was formed in 2003 with only a handful of residents, but over the years, we have grown. Our enthusiastic young director, Pam, is a joy. She makes rehearsals fun, and she’s very effective at helping the band play better.”

Jorgensen invites “Sun City residents to put on a tie-dye shirt and get ready to rock ‘n’ roll. Fred Joob will play the role of MC for the evening. There will be a few solos by the saxophone, trumpet, and clarinet players. We will feature some of our band members, Terri Pearl, Fred Joob, and Joyce Mueller, who will be singing at the show.”

The concert will feature some eighties medleys by artists Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, and Bon Jovi.

Jorgensen said, “Familiar tunes will be played: ‘Everybody needs somebody to love,’ ‘Gimme Some Lovin,’’ and an audience sing along with ‘Bend Me, Shape Me.’”

Ticket sales are August 8, 9, 15, and 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Prairie Lodge in front of the library. For more information, call Rob Lindsey at 847-904-3088.

Lindsey encourages anyone interested in joining the band to contact him.

“We encourage anyone interested to try us out. We have members who joined who hadn’t picked up their instrument for 50 years. There are six reasons to join our band:

• We have lots of fun
• Make new friends
• We all support each other
• We can be creative and express ourselves
• We help you develop your skills and
• You become a part of a family.
