Increasing prices and inflation have forced many families to make difficult choices between essential needs such as groceries, rent, and medicine. The Grafton Food Pantry, similar to many organizations, is currently serving a record number of individuals.
The Sun City Theatre company decided to play a role.
Russ Howard, President of the Theatre Company, stated, “We appreciate the efforts of the Grafton Food Pantry to bring a little joy to the less fortunate in this area, especially this time of the year. This year, we have provided $2,500 in donations through our theatre performances.”
The Theatre Company sells water and candy at theatre performances in the spring, summer, and fall. At the fall production of The Addams Family, the theatre company added a new feature: a cookie jar.
Howard explained, “Linda Davis had an idea to ask patrons to contribute spare change in a Ball Mason jar to raise additional funds. That jar collected $250 in donations. Our cast members also contributed $330.”
The Theatre Company raised $500 from its summer production and $1,430 from its fall production, bringing our total donation to $2,500.
Shortly before the holidays, the Theatre Company presented the donation to Harriet Ford, President of the Grafton Food Pantry, at Meadow View Lodge.
Ford stated, “It has been an honor to receive all of the generous donations from the Theatre Group over the years. It is such a hard-working organization, both onstage and behind the scenes, that brings so much joy to the residents of Sun City. We are so appreciative of being their charity of choice.”
