On the calendar for some Sun City residents is the thirteenth annual flower show, hosted by the Huntley Area Lions Club. This year, it returns as an evening dedicated to local creativity and community support. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, running from 7-9 p.m. at Huntley High School.
This year’s showcase promises to deliver professional design demonstrations and opportunities for audience members to win beautifully styled floral creations.

Carol Didricksen, Lions Club member and Sun City resident, said, “The event is beyond a creative exhibition. It is an important fundraising vehicle driven entirely by community support.”
The evening’s central attraction features three professional and local florists who are designing custom, master-level floral arrangements live on stage.
Sun City resident Kathy Wendhack shared her excitement for the upcoming program, stating, “I really enjoy the flower show because it’s a great event. With all the beautiful centerpieces, it’s inspiring.”
St this two-hour event, these florists will create more than 40 unique arrangements.
Didricksen said, “They also will be sharing seasonal advice, styling tips, and techniques.” She added, “We have Periwinkle Florist, Huntley Floral, and Town and Country Gardens together on stage.”
All on-stage arrangements will be raffled off to audience members, giving dozens of attendees a chance to bring a professional centerpiece home.
Nedra Reeves, Sun City resident said, “I love that the Huntly High School football players walk around displaying the newly created beautiful floral displays and you can win one, which I did.”
All of the profits from ticket sales and raffle items are reinvested directly into the community. Revenue raised from the evening funds the Huntley Area Lions Club’s core causes. These include vision and hearing assistance programs, including mobile screening units, recycling medical equipment, and support for Camp Lions for visually impaired youth. The club also supports local youth services, diabetes prevention, and hunger relief efforts through the Grafton Food Pantry.
Residents planning to attend are recommended to secure their admission early to take advantage of discounted pricing. Advance presale tickets are $16, while tickets purchased at the door on the night of the event are $20. You can purchase presale tickets directly from any active Huntley Area Lions Club member. Residents can contact Didricksen at cdidricksen@yahoo.com to secure their seating before the event sells out.
