Addie and Mike Metoyer’s home is decorated for the Halloween season from top to bottom.

Guests showed up with feathered, elegant, Mardi Gras masks. There was a Mardi Gras King in costume, cape and all. And what Mardi Gras party would be complete without the Jester.

“I started working with Roger on the New York Time’s Monday puzzle. Monday’s version is the easiest and they get harder each day and Sunday’s puzzle is huge,” said Kathy.

Soon, however, the couple would do more than solving the puzzles.

The uniforms here in Sun City reflect the generous sponsorship of the community. But nothing is as unique to baseball as the stirrup sock.

Chuck Hund, a team member for the Capitals, is known for the variety of Socks he wears to the games.

“I worked for Hollywood Casino for 5 years. I was hired in June 1993 and received 8 weeks of training and received certification from the State of Illinois. I was trained on blackjack, Caribbean stud poker, and the roulette table. Blackjack is the most popular table game. When you sit down at a blackjack table and face off against a dealer, you are playing the best odds in the house.”

Deborah Swinford, one of the catalysts to utilize the Cosman Theatre to bring more quality productions to Huntley, said, “I am helping with the fund-raising, creative concept and theatre group itself.”

Retro Rovers is a small group of Sun City Residents who have taken over 40 trips in an RV.

“We make about 3 to four trips a year,” Diez said.

“The first game was historic, as Don Larsen of the Yankees beat the Brooklyn Dodgers and threw the only perfect game in baseball history,” he said, recounting the 1956 game.

This was only the beginning.

“The first fishing derby was held in 2003, so it makes this the fifteenth,” Henry said.

Over 30 volunteers from the Angler’s Club and Grandma Grandpa, & Me worked together to create this event for the Grandchildren of Sun City residents.

Janette Dennis, currently director of a familiar series, said, “Radio gives us an opportunity to correct a mistake. It produces a seamless perfect dialogue.”

Glenn Groebli, President of the Sun City Softball Charter Club, said, “This will be the 16th year for the All-Star game. Each 16″ [softball] evening team selects two players and each morning team selects one player.”

“I love it. I live in the best neighborhood,” she said.

A creative person is easy to spot, not only because they have great ideas, but because they work hard. Kenny finds possibilities in every piece of fabric she sees and she is constantly evaluating. And then, she creates.

When two neighbors found themselves in violation of a Sun City ordinance when their lawn went uncut, Sandra McCollum was alarmed.

According to Bonnie Spasojevich, it’s “an event to showcase volunteer opportunities and charter clubs” as advertised by the Sun City Activity Committee.

“Yea Poppa! Yea Poppa!” screamed little Chelsea Kick, cheering on her Grandfather Chuck Martin. Her cheering might have been a catalyst for Martin, as he was 5 for 5 in the nine-inning game; two of those hits were home runs in the 5th and 7th inning.

Cesar Vega, a Peruvian-American resident of Sun City, uses the skills of an architect and the vision of an artist, to create intricate toothpick replicas.

Everyone reacts differently to hearing the news, and friends are sometimes at loss for words.

“We are here to raise funds to get rid of this terrible disease,” said Deb Oaks, a Relay For Life coordinator for an event in Huntley Park on June 9. “Our goal is $48,000 this year.”

Lisa Burton Bradford still believes in sending those cards in the mail, but she designs and makes them herself.

“I have been stamping since 1990. There are no mistakes when you make your own cards. They are all unique and you can always fix what you don’t like,” she said.

“One of our first Grandparents’ Days was with our granddaughter, Amanda, in 2004. We came right from O’Hare from a trip. We went straight to the classroom,” Donna Newbanks, Sun City Resident remembers.

Kathleen Talbot’s exuberance underscores her passion for travel. Talbot is a recently retired assistant principal; she taught for 21 years, ending her career as an assistant principal for the last 10 years.
