Joe Quinn, a 22-year Sun City resident, has taken up that cause of waiver concern.

“I understand the reasons for it, trying to lower the cost of insurance premiums, but my concern is the heavy-handed implementation of forcing residents to sign the waiver agreement. I am opposed to being threatened to sign something under duress,” Quinn told My Sun Day News. “I question how it will be maintained.”

On November 1, DD Creations, will be part of the 10 businesses Shops on Main Village of Huntley incubator business shops at Route 47 and Main Street. Village officials hope most shops will be open at the former Hackett House site by or around November 10.

“We had 200 participants, and they all played well,” Pickleball Charter Club President Pam White said. “We had participants from age 50 to 100, and some of the older players beat some of the younger ones.”

The season concluded with 90 minutes of intense softball and a 6-3 Lumbarjacks’ comeback triumph for the title over the Monarchs at Veterans Memorial Field Sept. 3.

“The name Diva’s was chosen by the ladies by a show of hands and the league has evolved over fourteen years,” Diva’s Ladies Golf League president Joyce Marnell said.

They were celebrating the Monarchs’ 8-7 comeback win over the Adjusters in the first round of the Sun City Softball Club’s post-season tournament.

Evers, age 5, shouted “go grandpa, go” during the exciting night of softball Aug. 13. Grandad, age 85 years young, came through with a single and three key putouts at home as catcher.

Davis’ ride of 400 miles raised funds for the Msrklund Home. Marklund Home’s mission, as described on its web site, “is to make everyday life possible for individuals with profound disabilities.” Davis said her late mother-in-law, Anne Davis, started the family’s support5 of Marklund Home, which has Geneva and Elgin locations. Davis donated $500 to Marklund.

The village secured an almost $1 million grant from the Small Business Administration via a Community Project appropriation through the office of US Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.).

Schwan returned with a silver medal he earned at the 2025 National Senior Olympics Games, held in Des Moines, Iowa. Schwan won three of four contested matches in the 75-79 age group, in the 4.0 division. Pickleball was one of 26 sports contested.

“It’ was a lot of fun to play the police department in softball,” Huntley’s new Fire Chief, Dan Wagner, said afterward.

The softball game at Sun City’s Veterans Memorial Field kicks off National Night out, on Aug. 5, with a start time of 2 p.m. Wagner was named as a HFPD Deputy Chief for Operations before last year. The public may also tour Huntley Fire Station No. 1, 1118 Main St., from 3-7 p.m., Aug. 6.

This year’s annual Huntley NNO event will take place Aug. 5. Locations will be First Responders Softball Game, with Huntley Fire Department, at 2 pm., at Sun City’s Veterans Memorial Field, then at Huntley Town Square, at 5 p.m.

The event, held July 5 at Culver’s of Huntley, has been held there for more than 20 years. Huntley Citizens Police Academy Alumni assisted in accepting tips from customers.

The Lions Club offered information as it celebrated Helen Keller Day on June 28 at Huntley Area Public Library. The annual event honors Keller, who earned a bachelor’s degree as she overcame blindness.

Fans arrived by car, golf cart and a few by bicycles. They watched four Sun City Softball Club 16-inch evening league teams, High Octane, against the Hurricanes and the Capitals and Adjusters square off.

The group, Friends of Del Webb Nature Preserve, are happy with support they received for installation of a trail, at the June 25 Sun City Board of Directors meeting.

“I always enjoyed history and writing,” Domagalski said.

The Lake in the Hills resident, who works at Ace Hardware corporate offices, has taken his “hobby” and made it into a second career. His sixth book about World War II, “The Forgotten Island” was published last summer by Simon and Schuster. It is the story of Navy Radio Electrician George Tweed, who hid out on the island Guam from Japanese occupiers for two years and seven months. He described the writing the book and main character Tweed’s experiences at a Huntley Area Public Library session May 10.

With the Major League Baseball season nearing its half-way mark, dozens of Sun City baseball fans came to the Drendel Ballroom for Tim Wilsey’s presentation about baseball. Some wore 2016 Cubs World Series hero jerseys of Javier Baez, or maybe for former manager Joe Maddon. Others went back to their youth for an Ernie Banks shirt.

“It was unbelievable,” said North about the Barrett Media Lifetime Achievement Award presented to him May 9. “I’m still an outsider, so I was shocked when Barrett Media owner Jason Barrett called me. At first, I wasn’t on their list, but Barrett said he wanted to talk.”

Pinecrest Golf Club has hosted the Sun City Men’s Golf League since the course became part of Huntley Park District. Previous locations were Whisper Creek in Sun City and Marengo Ridge. An 18-hole match-play format is used.

“We have 64 members now, and a list of 30 substitutes,” Sun City resident and league manager Andy Jones said. “The players are able to handle the 18-holes. We have some guys into their 80s and I would say the average age is the low 70s. There are a lot of golf leagues in Sun City.”
