MY SUN DAY NEWS
I took a walk this morning out where the sidewalk ends. Ask any city kid how to get to the end of the sidewalk, and he will thumb his nose at you, because any city kid knows that the sidewalk has no end.

A long-range solution to the issue of student parking on Sun City streets will be a reality later this month.
Here are an abundance of health tips (AARP Magazine June/July 2016) to help you survive Huntley’s late summer Dog Days.
The 2016 Summer Olympics are over, but the thrill of competition is alive and well in the Sun City Bocce Ball Club.
Jim’s grandparents emigrated from Bremerhaven, Germany. When Okoberfest draws near, this old man’s fancy turns to thoughts of Sauerbraten and Sauerkraut. Being the ever-vigilant food critics who anticipate our readers’ needs, we wanted to celebrate early so that you won’t miss out on this artery clogging festival.
I called my husband last Thursday afternoon and vented about a pattern of behavior that I had noticed in our son. While our son is innately the most caring, kind, and funny person I know (except his father of course), he had developed a pattern of behavior that needed to be addressed.
My sister and I disagree on how to care for mom. She lives out of state, and I am here, and involved in her day-to-day care. Since the care falls on my shoulders most of the time, I find myself feeling overwhelmed and resentful.

The hose faucet in the garage leaks and leaves water puddles on the garage floor. Is there any easy way to fix it or do I have to call a plumber?
As previously mentioned, the Huntley Library has hundreds of cookbooks. This one, from the NEW shelf, caught my eye because of the colorful cover, its Sports Illustrated connection, plus a mixture of simple recipes with short, interesting ballpark factoids.
To begin, kudos to Casting Directors Nikki Barrett and Francine Maisler for gathering together a superb cast. The movie stars two-time Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender, Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), and Oscar winner Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardner), all of whom lived up to their reputations.
When Joe Alengo signs on to his radio program, “Big Swingtime” on Huntley Community Radio, he might say something like, “If you like what you hear, be of good cheer! Tell a friend and let him capture the rapture.”
This summer, I challenged myself to read at least eight books. Why eight? The summer reading program at my library rewards you with one raffle ticket for every four books you read, and I thought that achieving two entries would be a lot more impressive than earning one lone chance at the grand prize. Confession: I’m not actually sure what the prize is, but I like a good challenge.

In the early days of Sun City, a very scenic landscape was created. It was located at the edge of the golf course, behind the outdoor pool at the rear of Prairie Lodge. It consisted of fountains and small waterfalls in a shallow basin behind the pool, a large waterfall alongside the pool in a forested area, more basins near the rear of the lodge, and another fountain near the bridge leading from the lodge to homes on Rock Creek Circle in Neighborhoods 1 and 1A. One of the fountains remains today.

It is difficult enough for us, humans, to keep cool in these months of August and September (especially this year), but the heat is truly no picnic for our beloved animal friends. Because dogs and cats do not sweat like we do, heat affects them differently. Here’s why
Americans don’t seem to be as crafty as they used to be, do they?
Right after the Sun City Elections Advisory Committee thought it had four 2017 board of directors members chosen by acclamation, it hit a bump in the road.
This year we have accumulated quite a bit of mold on the siding on the shady side of the house. What is the best way to remove it?
It’s hard to know where to begin, but I can tell you I spent half the time playing solitaire on my smart phone while I suffered through this debacle. Since there was no one within 50 feet of me, it didn’t annoy anybody.
My daughter Mary and I decided to set aside a day to spend together before she went to college. Neither of us wanted to choose what to do on that day. I wanted to do whatever Mary wanted to do and she wanted to do whatever I wanted to do. We went back and forth about this for a few days, until I caved in.
Is Nat’s on Maple a new infestation for Maple trees in Sycamore? No, it is a restaurant in their quaint downtown area. How do we find these out of the way restaurants you ask? All right you twisted our arm so we’ll tell you.
My dad fights us when we suggest he take a bath. He has memory issues, but it doing pretty good in many areas of his life. His hygiene, however, is a problem and is getting embarrassing. How can I get him to shower?
Letters for the week of August 25.
September 11 marks the 15th anniversary of the attacks in 2001, the day Americans watched in horror as a sunny Tuesday morning was violently disrupted by coordinated attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City, the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and a fourth hijacked plane that crashed near Shanksville, Penn.
The following are quotes from my wife, who is pregnant for the first time. The quotes are not labeled by week, but they do run in chronological order from just days after we found out she was pregnant to present day at 27 weeks along.
For the second straight year, there will be no competition in the 2016 Sun City board of directors election.
At every regular Sun City board of directors meeting, President Dennis O’Leary delivers a verbal report. They are presented in a variety of ways. Sometimes, he lists current maintenance projects, or promotes upcoming entertainment events. Sometimes, he discusses current management issues and challenges. At the June 15 board meeting, he did something a bit different.
Although summer is two thirds completed, the unusually warm temperatures are continuing to beckon many of us to romp in the “great outdoors” where tennis/pickelball/bocce courts, golf courses, and, of course, swimming pools (with their higher rate of reflected UV radiation) continue to await us.
Shortly after Sun City opened in 1999, the association established a policy that allowed guests of residents (mostly grandchildren) to swim in the Prairie Lodge pools at designated times and days. A similar policy was established at the two community fitness centers. Guests must be sponsored and accompanied by a resident at all times – in the pools and fitness areas.
A Huntley resident stated that he received a phone call from a person claiming he was with the IRS. The resident stated the caller wanted him to pay $2,985 using iTunes cards, by sending six different iTunes cards of $500 denominations. The Huntley resident hung up on the caller prior to obtaining an address of where the cards were to be mailed.
