Wildflower Lake maintenance plan grows

Sun City’s Board of Directors held another discussion July 7 about the problems at the Wildflower Lake shoreline, and they came closer to making a decision on what to do about them.

Safety from summer bugs

Summer annually brings warnings for Americans to be vigilant of bugs that can bite and cause harmful consequences to their victims. This year’s newest villain is the mosquito spreading the Zika virus in South and Central America.

On the NEW bookshelves is a non-fiction item that appeals to me because it has (as you can tell from the title) many pictures and not too much text. I used to tell my high school students that an easy way to keep up with current events, so as not to appear totally ignorant, was to browse through a weekly news magazine and look at the pictures, and read the captions.

Sherwin’s VIP Fashion Service and Fashion Show delighted its audience in Drendel Ballroom on Wednesday, June 29. Accompanied by a delicious luncheon provided by Jameson’s, one highlight of the program featured “The Price is Right” game with Kristi Buckman and Judy Koplos winning wardrobe items sold that day in Prairie Lodge’s hall outside the show venue. 

Things are looking up, way up

“Hurry to the stable, Matthias. We need you!” So begins the ebook, A Baby Changes our World, written by Sun City resident Ken Kozy. The story outlines the events of the Christmas Nativity story from the viewpoint of Matthias, a nine year-old stable boy living in Bethlehem. Later in the story, young Matthias looks to the skies, in awe of the bright star he sees glowing in the sky.

Air Conditioner Maintenance

The air conditioner unit on the outside of your house with the large fan pointing upward is called the condenser unit. It contains the compressor and the condenser heat exchanger. The condenser is like the radiator in your car. It has tubes that wrap around all four sides of the box.

On Friday, June 24, crews installed the highly anticipat- ed granite slabs, making up the new Veterans Memorial in Dahmer Square.

We all have our routines. They keep us on task and help us to remember to do certain things each day. Most routines are helpful, but some can be counterproductive. Unfortunately, rabbits have routines also.

We were in Hoffman Estates shopping at Mariano’s, aka The Dining Duo’s “Disneyland,” one late Saturday afternoon and decided to have dinner out that way. Jim was craving Asian cuisine, so I suggested, how about that restaurant in the South Barrington Arboretum that is across from the Mago Grill called Wok ‘n Fire? So we “wok”ed on the wild side and gave it a try.

Grandson takes 4th in Iron Man

Grant Fritz (19), son of Sun City resident Gary Fritz of Neighborhood 35, competed in a Iron Man 70.3 competition on June 19 in Syracuse New York.
