A Grand Slam Breakfast “Slam”

There is an old saying, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” As we get older, doesn’t that seem to be the case? It is a proven scientific fact that time does seem to go faster as you get older. Having said this, welcome to our post Fourth of July article! We are celebrating it at our new Denny’s Restaurant aka “America’s Diner” at Drendel’s Corner.

Things are looking up, way up

“Hurry to the stable, Matthias. We need you!” So begins the ebook, A Baby Changes our World, written by Sun City resident Ken Kozy. The story outlines the events of the Christmas Nativity story from the viewpoint of Matthias, a nine year-old stable boy living in Bethlehem. Later in the story, young Matthias looks to the skies, in awe of the bright star he sees glowing in the sky.

Skipping a generation, but not a turn

They say some things skip a generation, and I think I’ve found one of them.

What’s a mom to do when the channel-changer is way over there?

Let’s face it, we’ll never make America great again until our politically correct legal system stops harassing good parents.

I speak, of course, about the McHenry County woman who was charged with a misdemeanor and forced to plead guilty of endangering the life of her children, just because she fired a pistol shot into the TV where the kids were watching a music video.

Why we choose to live in an active senior adult community, part 2

It was most pleasing to discover in our last newspaper publication that Sun City/Huntley ranks #5 in popularity among other U.S. senior communities, according to 55Places.com. After viewing The Feeling Great Is Ageless Expo located throughout our Prairie Lodge recently, this ranking probably comes as no surprise to the expo’s participants.

Huntley Community Radio is going to help celebrate this great occasion with commercial-free music from Friday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m., after the HCR Evening News until the end of the Huntley “Party in the Park.”

Air Conditioner Maintenance

The air conditioner unit on the outside of your house with the large fan pointing upward is called the condenser unit. It contains the compressor and the condenser heat exchanger. The condenser is like the radiator in your car. It has tubes that wrap around all four sides of the box.

Independence Day: Resurgence – a huge disappointment

Yes, this was not only a huge disappointment, but it was also almost alarming how bad this movie was.

Dealing with those wascally wabbits, Part 1

We all have our routines. They keep us on task and help us to remember to do certain things each day. Most routines are helpful, but some can be counterproductive. Unfortunately, rabbits have routines also.

Headline: “Wok” on the “fire” side

We were in Hoffman Estates shopping at Mariano’s, aka The Dining Duo’s “Disneyland,” one late Saturday afternoon and decided to have dinner out that way. Jim was craving Asian cuisine, so I suggested, how about that restaurant in the South Barrington Arboretum that is across from the Mago Grill called Wok ‘n Fire? So we “wok”ed on the wild side and gave it a try.

Grandson takes 4th in Iron Man

A Tale of Two Walkers

Judy Smith and Pat Shannon met in 2008 when Smith moved in across the street from Shannon on Timber Creek Drive.

“My [previous] neighbor and I were good buddies,” said Shannon. “Then, when Judy moved in to Peggy’s house, well, we began to be buddies, too.”

The two forged a friendship that centered around walking.

I did it! I have finally achieved greatness!

For most people, it takes a lifetime to achieve greatness. Take my father, for instance. He didn’t achieve greatness until he was 76. My grandfather didn’t achieve it until he was 84. But I achieved it at only 36. In record time, in my opinion.

Scam Alert!

Telephone and email scams are everywhere these days. Ask virtually anyone you know, and they’ll tell you about a fraud attempt they have received or heard about. In Huntley, the police department, in the person of Sgt. Leonard Marak, is keeping Sun Citians aware regularly about the latest scam attempts.

It’s simple human nature to be so complicated

Nothing could be more simple. Which is exactly why it’s so complicated. After all, what could be more simple than the decision to save a little boy’s life?
