Rain, rain go away, come back another day

For the Fourth of July holiday, my children Sarah and Christopher and I flew down to Texas. We try to carve out some family time each summer, and this time it was in conjunction with witnessing my cousin receiving a prestigious award from NASA, visiting with many friends and, of course, a college visit to Texas A & M University.

When you hear someone says “United Kingdom” or “UK” what do you think it means? Most people think the phrase is only limited to England, but that’s not true. It also includes Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The UK almost lost Scotland recently, but the populous voted to retain the status quo.

My neighbor received a phone call from her grandson and it turned out to be a scam phone call. She couldn’t hear the caller very well, so she wound up hanging up. I can only imagine what the outcome could have been. What can we do to prevent being scammed?

Door Problems Resolved

Last week I opened the “inside” garage door to our house and heard a loud pop.  It sounded like a balloon burst. Now the door doesn’t close by itself. There are two large cylinder type hinges on this door.  Are these spring-loaded? Did one or both of them snap? How do I go about getting the door fixed?

The dreaded “C” word, part 1

The two leading causes of death by disease in the United States are cancer and heart disease. Together, they accounted for nearly half of all deaths in 2008, the latest year for which data was available, according to a Center for Disease Control (CDC) report. Med Page Today tells us that while heart disease was first with 25% of all deaths, cancer was second with 23% that year.
