MY SUN DAY NEWS
Neither rain, thunder, lightning, sleet, snow, freezing fog, or ice storms shall keep the Dining Duo from their appointed restaurant reviews. See what we do for you guys? Nancy bundled up like the little brother in the movie “A Christmas Story,” took an ice pick to the Mini-Mobile, turned the heated seats (aka, bun warmers) to high, and off we went. We didn’t go very far, we slid into Casa Rubi-Os in Huntley.
This is a very short story about a very long criminal court case that began in Sun City in 2015.
Shopping, for me, is always done out of pure necessity. I don’t get any pleasure out of it and would rather be doing a whole litany of things outside the confines of a store, rather than being inside it. There is one thing I do enjoy about shopping though. It is that at Kohl’s at the end of the whole experience, I get to look up at the large screen that details the purchases and circled in red, is the amount of money that I saved. It is a good feeling knowing that I chose wisely and am saving some money.
I will begin by telling you Green Book impacted me more than anything I have seen since Darkest Hour (December 2017). I should have gone to see this movie when it was released last November and I’m sorry I didn’t.
On a recent trip to visit relatives near Detroit, we decided to take a couple of days and see some of the local sites. Number 1 on our list was the Henry Ford Museum, with “museum” being a plural. The complex consists of the main transportation museum, the Ford Greenfield Village, and the production plant. We only had one day, so we were only able to visit the transportation museum. Fortunately, the group tickets come without an expiration date so we’ll get to use the other half on our next trip.

A cheery group of residents and current and former Sun City Softball Coyotes members attended the Cubs training game in Arizona recently and were recognized on the stadium’s jumbo screen.
Letters for the week of March 7.
Have you ever had that wonderful feeling when you found something that you thought you would never see again? Parsla Gagainis did when got a chance to see her late husband’s pride and joy, a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30. “One of my daughter’s friends saw the car in a car magazine and my husband was listed as the original owner,” Gagainis explained. Gagainis took a second look at the article. “It was our car. I couldn’t believe it. We had sold it in 1999 and now 20 years later it looked the same.”

I have a love-hate relationship with the healthcare Marketplace. I love that it makes insurance available to anyone…and I hate everything else.
Huntley village officials are celebrating an old saying in life – what a difference a year makes.
Maybe it’s because baseball’s spring training is here once again, and maybe it’s because baseball is America’s sport, and maybe it’s because America’s sport keeps spawning all those great metaphors to describe life in America. In any case, one of my favorite baseball metaphors keeps coming to mind these days: “Just because you were born on third base, it doesn’t mean you hit a triple.”

Federal Data issued in the Health-Care Section of February 7 The Wall Street Journal Newspaper informs us that, “More than 50 million adults in the U.S. are living with chronic pain at an estimated annual cost of $560 billion in medical care, lost productivity and disability programs.” This number is estimated, however, to be much higher according to Mayo Clinic.

We went shopping for furniture at Penny Mustard, where we found out that “Penny” has no reference to the price by any stretch of the imagination. We were looking for two movie theater recliners, and they had to pass Nancy’s rigorous inspection. After two hours of being folded up like a taco, laid out like a flatbread, and ejected like an F-16 fighter pilot, she had her workout for the day, and so did my wallet. We were both getting “hangry.”
Quoting from the February 11 edition of the Chicago Tribune, “Hollywood’s 2019 has gotten off to such a bad beginning that the movie’s tagline of ‘Everything is not awesome’ is looking more like accurate industry analysis.” I WONDER WHY?
I have a love/hate relationship with my Fitbit. As an activity tracker, it measures the number of steps I take, my heart rate and even my sleep habits. I love it because it was a Christmas gift from my children. The fact that they all pooled their well-earned money to choose a gift that I wanted means so much to me. It isn’t quite the gift that I had hoped it would be though.
I just saw your answer in the Sun Day to my question. You avoided the question, or possibly you did not understand…The question is: What is the purpose or function of expansion tank? Simple question?
When I visit my parents, I have noticed that we often have nothing to talk about. Conversations center on the weather or food. After each visit, I leave their company feeling empty. I don’t know how to generate a meaningful discussion with them. Is this common and how can I make a change so our visits are meaningful?
Dick Hattan, war veteran, has documented it all. “I think about it every day. Everyone reflects on their war experience. No one forgets the details. I was in the army for only 17 months, but I think about it every day. For 11 months, I felt threatened every day,” he said.

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” So asked Mary Oliver, one of the greatest and most prolific modern poets of the twenty-first century.

Despite all the topics that divide us into warring tribes — border walls, Russian hijinks, gun control — it’s nice to know that two recent studies have settled one long-standing argument once and for all: Dogs are better than cats.

After months of planning and community and board meetings at the Huntley Area Public Library District, it is now official – the Library District is going out to the voters this spring to fund an expansion project.
Calling all Del Webb residents with a passion for reading and children! Several of the District 158 Schools will be hosting Battle of the Books during March, April, and May, and many community volunteers are needed.
In Mary Ann Weissmann’s opinion, many people want to write a story of some kind, but they’re afraid to start, or they aren’t sure where to begin. It’s the exact reason why the writer’s group, Write On, was founded in Sun City back in 2003.

Did you know that some 40% of American citizens over the age of 50 still use aspirins for their primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease? These older seniors began this aspirin regimen in the 1980s with the strong emergence, at that time, of potential heart benefits for the medicine’s use.
If you live within a two to three mile radius of my house, there is a 99.9% chance you know Laurel and Hardy. Outside our borders the percentage drops precipitously. Case in point, the young lady at the refreshment stand asked me what movie I was going to see, I replied Stan and Ollie. She got a slightly glassy look in her eyes and asked “what’s that”?
The path that my son Christopher is traversing while determining which college to attend has been long and arduous. What started as fun Saturday afternoon strolls around picturesque campuses quickly became spending hours sitting in front of a computer writing essays, ordering test scores, and hitting the submit button while silently praying that he had done enough to receive the prized ‘You’ve been accepted’ email.
At the January 23 meeting of Sun City members and the first 2019 quarterly meeting of the Board of Directors, a major harvest of information took place.
We are working 24/7, day and night, through rain, sleet, snow, and arthritis, to find new restaurants for our loyal readers. There is no rest for restaurant critics!
My father’s dementia is progressing, and he has gone from being a mild and loving man to one that is mean and obstinate. I don’t know how to deal with his outbursts. I’ve spoken to his doctor, but I didn’t get much help from him. How do I deal with him lovingly, rather than play into his mean spirit?
