MY SUN DAY NEWS
Donât you just hate it when youâre standing in the checkout line, next to be served, and you suddenly realize that youâre naked?
Even though Del Webb Boulevard is Sun City’s most heavily traveled roadway, traffic accidents along it are rare. But shortly before 2 p.m. on November 20, the road’s good record was marred by a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Del Webb and Cold Springs Drive.
Letters for the week of December 7
I apologize for this two part series on drug addiction because of its sobering theme at our holiday season. I do, however, know that it is a subject, increasing in public awareness, that needs to be discussed at any time of the year.Â
Christmas is truly a unique, universal and global holiday celebration. No other holiday in the world can match its widespread appeal to so many cultures and celebrations. It is the oldest, most popular, and widely observed holiday in human history. Its concepts of faith and hope have been embraced throughout the world in an infinite variety of ways.

For this column I have interviewed Shane Jordi of Hansen Heating and Plumbing. Since 1946, Hansen Heating and Plumbing has been serving McHenry County and the surrounding area.
A quick heads up before starting. For the first time in ten years Netflix made a mistake and sent me the wrong DVD. Instead of what I ordered, I got Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2016, PG-13. I thought âwhat the heck,â Iâll take a look. That was the second mistake. I lasted ten minutes and that was it. If you are a Harry Potter fan you might enjoy it, otherwise forget it.
As many Sun City residents pack for warmer climates it is important to spend an hour or so to get your house ready for winter. When you are going to be away for a week or more you should prepare your home so there will be no surprises on your return.
My father has Alzheimerâs and doesnât sleep very well at night as well as wanders now and then. Since the time change, it seems to have gotten worse. Is there anything we can do to help this situation?
Today’s restaurant was closed for vacation the first time we attempted to review it. Because we received so many letters recommending this restaurant, we decided to give it another try. Nancy, aka âDebbie Downerâ, said we should call first to avoid spending half a day scouring the countryside for another restaurant if this one was closed again. Me with my âdevil may careâ attitude said, âlet’s just wing it.â So off we went to Heng Wing Restaurant in Palatine.
Woodchuck Christmas Elves donated beautifully hand-crafted toys to Grafton Food Pantry.
A few times a week, Joe Marmion picks up the phone and talks to his friend Lorraine, an 85-year old resident of Sun City. He checks in with her and they chat; once a week, the two of them get together and go somewhere, or just spend time together.

With the holidays now upon us, the influenza season will be in full throttle with social get-togethers everywhere helping to spread the germs. One predictor of how bad the season (October through May) will be is the continent of Australia which just suffered through an ugly influenza outbreak. Differing from the U.S., however, is the fact that Aussies only encourage high risk-groups to get their flu shots. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone over 6 months be vaccinated.
Each year in July, the Sun City staff, Finance Advisory Committee, and Board of Directors begin the six-months-long process of creating and approving the budget for the following calendar year. The annual process concludes in December with final approval of all budgets for the next year.
Santa’s elves aren’t the only ones who are making gifts for girls and boys. Sun Cityâs Sew N Sew and Woodchucks members recently displayed some of the wood-crafted toys and hand-pieced quilts that they plan to donate to the Grafton Food Pantry.

Remember when you had to go five miles to Randall Road for most of your shopping? Today, you just have to go to Route 47, Regency Square, or the Huntley Town Square, and you find most of what you need or want.
It may surprise you to learn that Agatha Christie is the best- selling author of all time. Her novels have sold over two billion copies so far, and still going strong. Her books have been translated into more languages than any others, save the Bible and the works of Shakespeare.
Mom lives alone, but I am her caregiver, checking in on her daily with a phone call or a visit at least on the weekends. We will be traveling during the holidays and I donât think I can leave her alone. What options are out there?
We have Moen faucets in the bathrooms of our Pulte built home. The handle (hot) on one faucet has become very loose and wobbly. I’ve attached a short video. It works fine but will likely get worse in the future.
As soon as it snows in the upcoming winter season, a $2.5 million expansion by the Huntley Park District will be completed with a bit of winter fun â a second sledding hill in Deicke Park.
Each year our family heads to Galena for the 4th of July holiday. The rolling hills, patriotic parade and rich history of the town offer us a chance to reconnect. Prior to leaving I go on a cleaning spree. As my family can attest I cannot physically leave the house until the beds are made, the floors are cleaned, and the clothes are all washed and put away.
A long, long time ago, on a Del Webb day trip far, far away, as we were passing by a restaurant, our friendly escorts Jan and Jerry suggested we review it. We put them on the âfast trackâ and only three short years later, we finally found the time to do it.
âWe love what we do!â said Kim Larson, Executive Director of Family Alliance. Larsonâs enthusiasm and assistance are having an impact in our Sun City community. Family Alliance worked with Alan Mogilner; Sun City Resident and facilitator of the Parkinson Support Group, to find a venue for their meeting needs.

The love story of Lewis and Carole begins at a train station in New York. âWe used to see each other casually because, for some reason, we used to take the same train home. I used to see her on the platform, and she used to see me on the platform,â said Lewis. âEvery Friday, I would get flowers for my mom, and she would see me with the flowers. So we got to talking, and I made a date with her.â From here, Lewis and Caroleâs story took a strange turn down an unexpected track.
