MY SUN DAY NEWS
Their trip began in Barcelona (part 1 of their story), after which they traveled to Madrid then on to Granada. After spending time in Granada, Grant and Linda (N-24)left for the southern coast of Spain. One benefit of taking a touring vacation rather than do it “on-your-on” are the side benefits that can take place.
I never read anyone else’s reviews about the movie I am going to see, lest I be tempted to plagiarize or form opinions ahead of time. I do, however, see the headlines and brief outtakes from others who have seen the film, many on twitter etc. “I have never left a film this awestruck,” was one comment, “legendary” was another, and “jaw dropping” another.
Two ladies (Diane and Carol) in our neighborhood came up with an ingenious idea to bring the neighborhood closer together. Their idea was to form a supper club. Every few months, Neighborhood 35 would pick a new target and descend upon the restaurant. The inaugural event was held at Port Edward Restaurant in Algonquin.
We are busy with our spring cleaning lists at this time of the year. Winter windows turn into sparkling majesties as they are cleaned to let in bright rays of sunshine. Don’t forget to include your grand and mighty task of organizing on your spring cleaning to do list.
Letters for the week of May 3.

The sights and sounds of the Wild West come to Huntley when the Sun City Theater troupe performs Annie Get Your Gun, the light-hearted musical with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin. The story is a fictionalized account of the life of Annie Oakley, a sharpshooter who starred in Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, and her on-again off-again romance with sharpshooter Frank Butler.

A couple weeks ago, Sun Day Advertising Representative Kurt Kuehnert and I sat on a panel of local media members at an event for non-profit organizations to ask questions on how to better communicate with media outlets in hopes of gaining more exposure. Given the event’s success, I thought it might be beneficial to address some of the topics with our readers in hopes to provide you with a better understanding of how we choose our editorial content, therefore allowing you increase your chances of having your material published in the Sun Day.

In early February, my wife sat in her wheelchair with a pile of gardening catalogs spread out on the coffee table in front of her. It was time to start planning her springtime plantings — which meant I would spend the better part of this day filling out order forms or calling 1-800 phone numbers to places like Breck’s, Heronswood Gardens, Burpee, Jung Seeds, Bluestone, Jackson & Perkins, SpringHill Nurseries. I could feel the Master Card heat up from anticipation.

Rutland Township government continues to function on controversy and divisive behavior, instead of teamwork and unity. The years 2016 and 2017 brought controversies about the handling of nominating petitions and an attempt to knock a long-time incumbent leader off the ballot in last year’s election. Last week, another dustup erupted, involving an alleged failure to process property tax assessments in a timely fashion and/or according to state law.

There is nothing more rewarding than seeing students’ faces light up when they see their grandparents come to their classroom. “One of our first Grandparents’ Days was with our granddaughter, Amanda, in 2004. We came right from O’Hare from a trip. We went straight to the classroom,” Donna Newbanks, Sun City Resident remembers.

What kind of community is Huntley on a Saturday night? What do suburban cops actually do? What kind of shifts do they work? What do they think of cop shows on TV? Do they mind if people call them cops? The Sun Day got some answers to these questions on March 17 when this writer spent four hours riding along with a Huntley officer.

Most people are unaware of the range of critical functions performed by the all-important body’s organ, the liver. Unfortunately, liver disease today is increasing due to alcohol use, obesity, viruses, and a range of other factors. In fact, approximately 5.5 million Americans now have chronic liver disease known as severe liver scarring or cirrhosis (alcoholic and non-alcoholic/fatty livers).
To the casual observer, Sun City’s Eakin Field, home of the community’s Softball Charter Club, is a beautifully landscaped site. Some of the most exciting and entertaining sporting moments in Sun City take place on its lush acres: 12-inch and 16-inch Chicago-style softball games, special events honoring veterans, all-star games, the National Night Out celebration, skill competition, and the annual softball league playoffs in August.

How old is your furnace and when do you plan to replace it?
This is an unusual, unique and a “one of a kind” movie. On the other hand, what Wes Anderson production isn’t? He and his technical crew just took the art of “stop-motion animation” to a new level with this exceptional film.
Mulch is an integral part of our landscaping. It enhances the appearance of our home, adds nutrients to our soil, suppresses weed growth and helps the soil retain moisture. It also seems though, that mulch is often misunderstood. For this column, I have asked Kevin Donnelly, a horticultural soil scientist to answer a few questions about mulch. Kevin is a key member of the Quality Control Team at Midwest Trading.
My husband is older than I am by ten years. It didn’t make a difference in our lives until recently. His health has impacted him, and I am finding that I can’t care for his needs because I have physical limits of my own.
We received a letter from a loyal reader recommending the restaurant that we will be reviewing today. This restaurant was recommended to them by a friend, who had a friend who recommended this restaurant, that was recommended to them by a friend, and so on…You get the idea. This highly recommended restaurant is the Big Skillet Restaurant and Pancake House in Elgin.

I want to share the world experience and their cultures.” Kathleen Talbot’s exuberance underscores her passion for travel. A day or two after my wife died from a stroke on Valentine’s Day, our daughter Jenny helped me go through Gail’s prescription medications that would no longer be needed. Out went the Coumadin that kept her blood from forming life-threatening clots. Out went the Neurontin that battled her incessant nerve pain. Out they went, and others — out, out, out. But Jenny paused when we came to the Cymbalta (an antidepressant) and the Xanax (an antianxiety drug). “You may want to keep these handy,” she said. “You might need them for yourself for a while.”

On Saturday, March 24, 2018, approximately 200 people from Huntley gathered at Deickie Park to March For Our Lives. They came together to March, chant, carrying signs they made and converse with each other about Gun reform. There were students from our Huntley High who spoke. Teachers spoke. Those whose lives have been touched by gun violence spoke.
One of the oldest debates between governors and the governed is a real or perceived lack of communication, or transparency. In big cities, small towns, farming communities, neighborhoods and organizations, there are frequent criticisms and complaints by the governed that the governors and leaders aren’t transparent enough, available enough, or responsive enough.

After hearing about Huntley’s upcoming water rate increase in May, Sun City residents might be curious how Huntley’s rates compare to those of other communities, now and in the future.
Trying to fight the flu is difficult for a number of reasons. Human beings are infected by Influenza A or B viruses. But mutations can create different strains among the main types of A viruses that infect man: H1N1 and H3N2. Because of the time it takes to make the vaccine, the virus’ mutation can result in a mismatch between the circulating virus and the vaccine.
When we moved here seventeen years ago, there were very few birds. Our previous house was located in the woods, and we were used to hearing birds in the morning when we awoke and there were many birds to be seen in the air and in the trees all during the day.
This has been in the theater for several weeks now, and some of you may have already seen it. It’s an uplifting true story about the number one Christian song of all time, and how it came to be written. Prior to seeing this I had never heard of Bart Millard, the singing group Mercy Me, or the song “I Can Only Imagine.” Wow, where have I been?
Our family is caring for our parents, and I am the oldest of our siblings, as well as the leader for their care. I’ve noticed a change in their needs. I am also feeling an increase in my stress level due to these changes.
This is chapter two of the former Huntley Outlet Center’s final story. On March 16, Huntley village officials issued the owners of the defunct mall a demolition permit to take down the buildings, most of the infrastructure, and advertising signs. All evidence of the once vibrant factory shops center will be gone no later than June 15, according to a court order.
