Here we go another time. Two years ago and then again last year I complained about the lack of decent new releases hitting the theaters this time of year. Perhaps a columnist from the Los Angeles Times described it best, “For decades, spring was largely considered a kind of dead zone in Hollywood’s release calendar, an island of cinematic misfit toys lacking a coherent identity or much inherent appeal for film distributors. In everyone’s minds there’s the holiday season, there’s awards seasons, there’s the summer movie season – and then there’s spring.”
Jim’s arms were getting too short for him to read anything, and the adhesive tape wasn’t holding his broken glasses anymore, so off we went to Spring Hill Mall to remedy the situation. His vision was impaired with his old prescription eyeglasses, but isn’t it funny how he could spot a restaurant from a mile away??? The name piqued our interest, so we decided to try the Chubby Bullfrog Bar & Grill (next to Sears) in West Dundee.

Music therapy sessions are helping people with Parkinson’s disease, but how? Music, particularly rhythm, can become a template for organizing a series of movements.

In ancient Babylon, the citizens used to view January first as a day to make promises to their gods, agreeing to pay off their debts and return what they had borrowed throughout the year. In Rome, around the time of 46 B.C., the Romans recognized January as a time to provide scarifies to their gods and vow to behave better in the upcoming year. In 1740 England, clergyman John Wesley led Christians to welcome the new year with focus and prayer.
Almost a year since the car-house accident, the Donald Helfer case was finally resolved on January 11.
A group of Sun City residents and the community’s board of directors got a good reminder on January 10 why there are always an odd number of members on a governing board.
Without trying to be too redundant, I would like to follow-up on Christine Such’s January 11 column on New Year’s Resolutions.
Another Christmas has come and gone, with not a single lump of coal at the bottom of my Christmas stocking! To be honest, that may or may not be a testament to my good-boy status over the past year, because I don’t know where Santa would find a lump of coal these days, even if he felt my behavior warranted it. Does Amazon deliver coal to the North Pole?

Are Your Windows Closed? Are You Sure?
It was a cold, dreary, Sunday morning. Cabin fever was rearing its ugly rear. Nancy was staring blindly at the computer screen when she noticed a Groupon coupon for a new brunch restaurant. I was staring at the TV screen sucking down my first cup of coffee when she yelled, “Breakfast is ready!” We bundled ourselves up, jumped into the Dining Duo Mini-Mobile, which now resembles a block of salt, and headed for Southern Belles Pancake House in Carpentersville.
My siblings and I take turns bringing our mother to her doctor visits. We seem to have a handle on the appointments, but when it comes to keeping records, we often have details that fall through the cracks. This leaves us feeling frustrated. How can we manage her doctor visits, so we are all on the same page?
No one reading this can forget where they were or what they were doing when 9/11 hit. It was like a bullet between the eyes for all of us. On the other hand, few if any of us remember the date October 16, 2001, the date when the first combat teams from our military began the fight in Afghanistan. This is the true story of a group of twelve Special Forces warriors who began the fight and paved the way for the rest of our troops.
Letters for the week of January 25.
The Train Club in Sun City Huntley is pleased to announce the winners of this years Holiday Train raffle.
Jack Wirth was 12 years old on November 16, 1952, when he attended his first professional football game at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The Los Angeles Rams, then a dominant professional team in pro football, beat the Chicago Bears, 40-24. Little did Jack know, however, that the event would shape his life, launch his career, and determine all of his future endeavors.

If you’re anything like my father, what I’m about to say will put a chill into you: From the age of 22 to 37 my wife and I didn’t have health insurance. And although a risk, I can honestly say it was the best money never spent. Granted, those were the carefree days of young adulthood where health concerns were of little worry, but ever since getting health insurance three years ago, I’ve never been more scared in my life that something will go wrong. And this is not a case of superstition. I’m not worried that now that I have health insurance I’ll get sick. I am worried, however, about dealing with health insurance.

One thing never changes in Huntley – and that’s the process of change. Put another way, if you thought 2017 was a banner year for expansion in the Village of Huntley, wait until you see what’s coming in 2018.

Maple is an obvious word to start a story set in rural Vermont, but in author Robin MacArthur’s new novel Heart Spring Mountain, the obvious ends there because what follows is a beautifully original tale of a family and the imperfections that bind three generations of women to each other and the landscape and history that has shaped their lives.
I spent New Year’s Eve binge-watching “The Twilight Zone” on the SY-FY channel. Oh, I know, that’s not what most people think of as a rockin’ New Year’s Eve. Most people want a night on the town that would cause them to wake up in the morning (or afternoon), rub their aching head and moan: “Never again” — behavior that probably involves copious amounts of alcohol and so many drinking games they could make an Olympics out of it.

One of the great things about independent travel is that sometimes you stumble upon places and sites that you would most likely never have visited, but are totally glad you did once you experience it.
The Merriam-Webster definition of New Year’s resolution: a promise to do something differently in the New Year. About 40% of American people make New Year’s resolutions to make themselves better people. This tradition did not originate here in America. Historical documents show that the Babylonians made promises to the gods for the New Year hoping to get a favor in return for their promise such as getting out of debt.

We recently moved to Sun City and love our house, but it takes forever in the morning to get hot water to the bathroom sink. Is there any way to get hot water faster?
T’was the week before Christmas and all the presents were wrapped, the cookies were baked, and the tension within our family was running rampant. As they say in the movie Christmas Vacation, “It’s the holidays, and we’re all in misery.” Since we had the time, and Nancy needed a beer, we put ourselves in harms way, and ventured out near Woodfield Mall. We went to review the newest restaurant in Schaumburg called Miller’s Ale House.
During frigid temperature season, homeowners should be aware of precautions they can take to help protect interior pipes and water meters from freezing so that exterior service lines aren’t affected.
I am single, and have no children. I also was an only child, so I have no siblings or much family to speak of. As I enter the later years of life I know I must start paying attention to my future care. Do you have recommendations on what to have in place?
