All Sun City military veterans are invited to join members of the Sun City Softball team in a Salute to all veterans. Join your fellow Veterans on Eakin Field, home of Sun City Softball, on Saturday, September 11, at 3 p.m.
Glenn Groebli, organizer of the event, said, “All veterans will be given a free shirt and hat for their branch of service. We want to reach out to all Sun City residents to come out to the field, not just the softball players. All veterans deserved to be thanked.”
Pre-game activities include a salute to all branches of service.
Each veteran will group by their branch of the U.S. Armed Forces and will be recognized by their service song. The songs are meant to inspire troops, preserve tradition, and represent the individual histories and traditions of America’s Armed Forces.
Some of the local sponsors for the afternoon are Black Diamond, Huntley Realty, Sarah Mitchell, Century 21, and DeFiore Funeral and Cremation Services. Attendees will have a chance to enter a 50-50 raffle and a raffle for prizes. And of course, there will baseball game staples: hot dogs, chips, and water.
Groebli said, “We will again have professional singer, Kimburlee Burhans, singing the National Anthem. The Color Guard will be there as well.”
The proceeds raised from the game will be added to fund a Veteran’s Memorial in Sun City.
Groebli said, “We want all vets, not just the ones that play softball. They need to come out here and be recognized. We are hoping that we see the field crowded with Sun City Vets. Please contact Gary Krewer at gmjkrewer@gmail.com or 630-877-1686 to register.”
