Mare Roccosanto, Vice President of Tall Oaks Tennis Club (TOTC) said, “Thank you GG & Me for letting the Tennis Club put on this event again. Forty-Five minutes before we were ready to start, the courts were wet. It was touch and go with the rain. A little delay did not stop us. Thank you to the Softball Charter Cub for lending us their blowers. Courts were dry in a jiffy.”

In Sun City, one neighborhood published their residents’ favorite recipes in the ‘Sun City Huntley Neighborhood 3 Cookbook.’ Sandy Smith coordinated the effort.

Joyce Zito, a Sun City resident, is trying to spread the word about ovarian cancer and is asking for help. According to information from the American Cancer Society, ovarian cancer mainly develops in older women. About half of the women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer are 63 years or older.

His love of music began in his childhood.

Taylor said, “I was born into music. My father had a record collection. My mother played the organ. As a toddler, I would watch her work her magic playing the keyboard and pedals. And my grandfather had a huge stereo system and I would sit on his lap and listen to his favorites like Perry Como.”

Talk Oaks Tennis Club introduced the Pro-Am last year to give any Sun City resident an opportunity to challenge one of the Tennis Pros. The event is scheduled this year on August 27 from 1-4 p.m. on the Stadium Court. Any resident will have a chance to play against a pro, but with a decided handicap such as playing with a wooden tennis racket, or different lines.

Richard Meyers, a manager at Culvers said, “It was a magical moment in time.”

Each stitch on the quilts is a labor of love completed by the women in The Quilts of Valor to show appreciation and gratitude to veterans serving the United States of America.

“I’ve been there 8 months,” Smith said. “I’ve worked at animal shelters since I was 20.”

According to Smith, volunteering is a true passion.

Johns, a Sun City resident, is the founder and director of The Monarch Center for Women’s Leadership Development. She is a retired university professor and has authored textbooks in health care and leadership.

What gave her the idea to start writing fiction?

Richard Christie said, “We had just closed on a home in Sun City and here she was asking me to teach classes in our new community.”

Sun City residents Debbie and Don Smith have been living next to a house that has been vacant for five years.

Rich said, “We both started working at Medi+Physics. The company develops, manufactures, and distributes radiopharmaceutical diagnostic imaging agents. The company produced isotopes. One of the uses for isotopes is for imaging. Some have a short shelf life and have to be used the next business day.”

Then everything changed.

Pat McKay, a player on the Adjusters softball team, said, “While we were playing the game on the field, our wives were talking and during their conversations, they found something that they all had in common. Their husbands all played an instrument and were in a band when they were younger. They encouraged us to get together.”

That’s how Sun City residents John Toth, Dave O’Neil, and Pat McKay got together in the basement of the drummer (because it’s difficult to move those drums) to play some tunes once a week.

Bagby said, “We are hoping to get residents who can transfer their knowledge and skills to our students. We offer programs in engineering, fine arts, global, and medical fields.”

What prompted her to start fundraising?

Kroot said, “I decided to start fundraising in 2003 when my cousin’s wife died of breast cancer. I sent out emails asking for donations. The first year, I raised $300 with little effort. I thought that with more effort I could raise more.”

What brought her to Sun City?

Caliendo said, “I got to know the members working with them last October to prepare for them for the holiday concert. I was asked to be the director here this year and I started in March.”

Kiddieland was an amusement park located at the corner of North Avenue and First Avenue in Melrose Park, Illinois.

Nancy Kutska, General Manager of the Strutters said, “The Sun City Strutters started offering tap with Jackie Cesarone in 2003. The group added ballet in 2004 with Mary Wyatt and jazz in 2007 with Valarie Stroud.”

The Neighborhood 26 Book Club reached a milestone this April.

Bill Elke was diagnosed with heart issues at the age of 35. Marcia, his wife said, “Bill was in denial thinking he was invincible.”
