Political Place: Citizens for Altering the Old School Site meeting

We need as many Huntley residents to attend this meeting as possible. This important meeting is regarding a proposed project for the Old School Site located on the northwest corner of IL Route 47 and Mill Street. A portion of the land also borders Main Street.

Mosquito control efforts

If you have spent even a short amount of time outside in the last month, you are aware of an increase in the mosquito population in our area. The recent rains and high heat has created a floodwater mosquito superbrood of these aggressive mosquitoes.

My wife and I just moved into a house in Del Web and are doing some renovating as we move in. The Patio door needs replacing and the lock at the bottom doesn’t work, as it’s broken. The lock at the middle that locks to the frame on the wall has the handle broken. Plastic cover is broken off!

Meet the new D-158 Superintendent

Dr. Scott Rowe is the new superintendent for Huntley Community School District 158. He is replacing John Burkey. Dr. Rowe was previously the principal of Huntley High School. He was instrumental in many of the programs which have improved the district in the recent past.

Kishwaukee Valley & Eakin Creek Model Railroad Club Summer Sunday Operations and the McHenry County Fair

Our Summer Sunday operations will continue throughout the summer on Sunday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. every Sunday. The location is 13400 Sun City Blvd. Huntley IL, 60142, or just look for the sign “Trains are Running” by the baseball field parking lot on Sun City Blvd. Please be advised that operations are contingent on the weather and train crew availability.

In memoriam: Jo Bestmann

It is with deep sadness that I must announce the passing of Jo Bestmann on June 3, 2018. She was a good neighbor, friend and neighborhood NB22 Representative. We will miss her but now she is out of pain.

National movement marches through Huntley

On Saturday, March 24, 2018, approximately 200 people from Huntley gathered at Deickie Park to March For Our Lives. They came together to March, chant, carrying signs they made and converse with each other about Gun reform. There were students from our Huntley High who spoke. Teachers spoke. Those whose lives have been touched by gun violence spoke.

Huntley water rate to increase May 1

In a fast-growing village, few things wear out faster than the water and waste water systems.

The village has about the same water infrastructure that it had back in 1999. In the past 18-plus years, Huntley’s rates have increased very little. When Sun City opened in 1999, the village’s population was less than 3,000. Today, it is about 26,700.

Fun and fellowship at Chamber Expo

Dozens of local businesses lined up at the annual Chamber Home, Biz, and Wellness Expo on Saturday, March 3 at the Huntley Park District, where hundreds of attendees turned out to learn about what our local businesses have to offer. Featured just above are the Lions Club of Sun City.

New ‘Hotline’ phone number

A “hotline” phone number has been created for dissemination of important information such as Attached Product Neighborhood (APN) snow removal services and cancellation of outdoor events due to unfavorable weather conditions.

Meet the Media event

Volunteer Center of McHenry County is a non-for-profit organization who builds capacity of local agencies through volunteerism, training, and workshops. Join VCMC, meet the local media, and learn how get the word out about your agency. Hear suggestions from the media representatives on how to best promote your agency’s needs to reach your desired demographic. You will be treated to a light breakfast, while you enjoy keynote speaker, Kevin Lyons.

Theatre company of sun city scholarship fund

The Theatre Company of Sun City announces their Scholarship Program is now open for 2018. The company decided it would again dedicate a portion of their budget to a scholarship fund directed towards helping young people, grades K through 12. One of the requirements is that be a relative of a Sun City resident. Equal consideration is given to all students who apply.

Another Christmas without coal in my stocking

Another Christmas has come and gone, with not a single lump of coal at the bottom of my Christmas stocking!

To be honest, that may or may not be a testament to my good-boy status over the past year, because I don’t know where Santa would find a lump of coal these days, even if he felt my behavior warranted it. Does Amazon deliver coal to the North Pole?
