German physician Otto Warburg was awarded a Nobel prize over 80 years ago for first uncovering cancer cells massive dependence on sugar as a fuel source. Even if we could say that sugar may or may not be involved with the development of cancer, once it takes over, sugar keeps it going much like pouring gasoline on a raging fire.

This week in history.
By the end of 1997, Sun City was swiftly beginning to take shape. The south end of Huntley was a vast construction zone. Streets, wetlands, and neighborhood parks were emerging, sites for activities and sports were on the drawing boards, and colorful gardens and flower beds were springing up.
When my wife and I moved into our home in the summer of 2012, we had very different views on what the progress of our new home would look like. My wife wanted it finished as soon as possible. I wanted to make it a work in progress. Marriage is a work in progress.
Gibs is a 15 lb, wire-haired terrier mix who is mostly white with-tan-and black spots. He was adopted out from Animal House Shelter in Huntley on Monday, April 21 and ran from his adopters’ home, located near the intersection of Sun City Blvd and Countryside Blvd in Del Webb, on that day around 4 p.m.
Amtrak service between Rockford and Chicago – last available in 1981 – is set to return with Huntley marked as a stop along the route.
Eighty residents and their guests traveled back in time to 19th Century England on Sunday, May 4, as famed author Jane Austen paid a delightful visit to Creekside Lodge, courtesy of Edgewater’s Chapter One Book Club and the talents of dramatic impersonator and historian Debra Ann Miller.
On Saturday, May 10, Huntley mail carriers will do more than drop off the latest cell phone bill, as the post office – and Grafton Food Pantry – are gearing up for the annual Stamp Out Hunger food drive.

Nancy was driving, and we were trying to find the Villaggio Ristorante in Roselle. Suddenly her bloodhound nose went up in the air, she smelled garlic, and her eyes glazed over. “There it is!” she yelled, and her Mini Cooper reenacted a scene from “The Italian Job.” I hung on for dear life as she made an abrupt turn into a strip mall.
As a nearly 50-year Cubs fan (a lifetime mission, I call it), I can’t let the 100th anniversary of Wrigley Field happen without some commentary.
Terry Hora is an amazing 71 year old resident of our community! Like the mythical Phoenix, he has risen from the ashes, those of pain and disability, to overcome multiple heavy-duty surgeries in just 14 months and 3 weeks. Let me tell you his story and how it might help all of you with future medical difficulties.
For over 10 years, over 500 Easter baskets have been specially made and given to children in need. Easter is a sign of hope, and I felt an Easter basket for a child would give them hope for a better year.
I regret to inform you that this edition of the Sun Day is the last edition that will serve the Edgewater Community.
Ask anybody what “Fido” means to them, and they’ll say without a moment’s hesitation, “That’s a dog’s name.”
Spring is finally here, and it is time to do some outdoor work. If you haven’t cleaned your window screens for a year or more, it is time to clean them. The first thing to remember is never power wash window screens, as the force of the water can damage the screens. Remove the screens from the window frame. Mix a solution of mild soap and water. A half-cup in a bucket of warm water will do.
During a recent dinner conversation, as we all looked outside at the rain coming down, my husband said “Isn’t it beautiful outside, everything is green!” Normally, he is the pessimist and I am the optimist. But on this occasion, our roles were reversed. “My feet were soaking wet for 10 hours today. I wish it would stop raining.” I complained. As dinner progressed, I looked outside a few more times. Yes, he was right, the rain was a blessing.
In addition to sugar being high on the glycemic index, it is completely void of nutrition, having had all of its vitamins, minerals, and fiber removed. We do better caring for our automobiles, making sure they get good fuel and oil than we do our bodies.
Q. I had to move my mother to a memory care community in the area. Since she moved there, I have visited her every day. Now that she is settled, she expects me to continue to visit every day, and I just can’t do it anymore. I work full time and find little time for myself and my spouse. I don’t mind visiting, but I am drained.
Several things about this movie before delving into the storyline. First, it is brilliantly produced, written, directed, and acted. The technical details, such as sets, costumes, and cinematography are all Oscar level in my opinion, and they only add to an already impressive production.
I am curious to see how much this tough winter will influence our mid-west neighbors to want to get in a late spring vacation. Many of our neighbors took their vacations last fall and have been cooped up for a while, itching for some nice weather.
A few weeks ago, a number of community minded Sun City residents experienced what appeared to be one of those rare communal issues or, at least, what had the making of an issue. Word got out that changes in staffing resulted in the loss of a long time employee followed by another rumor that a second staff member likewise was amongst the unemployed, followed by yet another report that a third staff member resigned his position.

This coming Sunday, April 27, a group of Sun Citians will celebrate a very unique anniversary. Neighborhood 2 of Sun City is 15 years old this month, and that makes Sun City 15 years old. N.2 was the first one formed in the community in April, 1999.
