Q. My mom lives alone, and last month, she fell in her home. Luckily, she didn’t break anything, but we whisked her to the ER to make sure she was O.K. She hasn’t fallen again but that is my biggest fear now (and hers as well). I am constantly worried, and she refuses help when I offer suggestions to make a few changes in her home.

The problem with grains and sugar

Insulin is known as the master hormone of human metabolism and is produced by the pancreas. It affects every cell in the human body and without it one would die. When one eats carbohydrates, which include sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and grains, glucose is released into the bloodstream.

Solving frozen garage doors and faulty CO detectors

Question: My garage door was frozen to my driveway a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t know it and when I opened it with the remote, the strip holding the weather stripping at the bottom of the door pulled off for a distance of about three feet from the end. The strip is hanging from the door bottom. I am able to see two thin nails that were holding the strip in place. The nails are beneath the weather stripping through to the bottom of the door. The weather stripping itself is fine. Do you know of anyone who has had the problem and what they did to fix it?
