7-0 vote converts two tennis courts to pickleball courts, controversy arises

For the past several years, the Sun City Tennis and Pickleball clubs have shared playing courts at the Tall Oaks Tennis Center. Schedules and court availability have been negotiated by leaders of both clubs.

All of that is about to change, however.

My mom has had several falls over the past few months. She lives in her own home, and I’ve suggested she move to an assisted living community. She will have nothing to do with that idea, but her falls are happening with more frequency and it is taking a toll on me.

A tasty Texas treat

One Saturday afternoon, Nancy and I jumped into the Dining Duo mini-mobile with the plan to review a Chinese restaurant in Palatine that was recommended by one of our readers. Upon arrival, the parking lot was completely empty and we discovered they were closed for vacation. Time to switch to Plan B: a Mexican restaurant in Elk Grove Village also recommended by one of our loyal readers. Once again, we pulled into an empty parking lot and realized they don’t open their doors until 3 p.m. on Saturdays. Time to switch to Plan C.

The movie screens have been filled all summer with a glut of special effects “blockbusters.” I’ve seen enough in the last several months to last me a lifetime. I will say again, Wonder Woman was worth the trip; the rest range from mediocre to downright bad. This latest Spiderman sequel passes the “mediocre” test, but not much more.

Shower temperature adjustment

Most Sun City homes have Moen shower faucets. These faucets have a feature called Posi-temp that allows you to set the maximum temperature. The temperature was set on installation so that when the handle is turned all the way counterclockwise, the temperature is ideal for showering. If this temperature is not correct, either because it has drifted or because it was not set properly on installation, you can adjust it to suit your needs.

Wounded Warrior Project of McHenry and Lake County had a fun-filled day on June 17, getting to fly radio control simulators and real model airplanes as well as watching scale model and aerobatic radio controlled airplanes and helicopters put on a show.
