MY SUN DAY NEWS
A master lives within Sun City. While many tend to ace hobbies that include car repair, gardening, or even writing, Dave Germaine has approached a different field – bridge.
I will confess; it’s my second year out of college and I still go back-to-school shopping.
She redefined enthusiasm. She played the major role in creating Sun City’s social fellowship and recreational structure. She loved bringing people together. She started her time in Huntley in early 1999, and wound up as the longest serving staff manager in the community.
The Sun City board of directors is swiftly moving on from the recent financial out-sourcing controversy.
Break-ins continue to occur in Sun City, and residents need to pay attention to their windows as well as doors, police recently advised.
Lauren Lee was in Sun City for less than two years, but she accomplished as much or more than some of her predecessors did in longer periods of leadership.
Those of you who suffer from maladies such as migraines, fibromyalgia, or irritable bowel syndrome (along with neuropathic and inflammatory pain), know the meaning of chronic pain. Modern medicine and its diagnostic testing often give us no conclusion as to what is causing the pain.
I have been advised to put a power of attorney in place. I have also heard the term “advance directive.” Are these the same?
Did you know there are still a lot of folks out there who don’t know we exist?
All residents, their families and friends as well as the general public are cordially invited to our Fall Open House on Sunday, September 20, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
We don’t see the world as it is, we see it as we are. I think that might be the most insightful line I ever came up with—even though Anais Nin came up with it first. But still, I’m taking credit for it because I don’t think Nin should get all the credit just because she was born almost 50 years before me and got to say the line first.
The Sun City Bocce ball Club, which is the largest club in sport in Sun City Retirement Community, concluded it’s 2015 season with 18 league winners entering a single elimination tournament to determine the champion for the year.
Most of us harbor some kind of wish or desire for that one great adventure in life. Mine was to drive to Alaska, and on June 13, 2002, I climbed into my Nissan Pathfinder and headed out. Even though I was in Salt Lake City at the time, it was still a 7,000-mile round trip and one I will never forget. During that entire time I only recall uttering one (minor) profanity, when I almost drove into a moose.
Jimmy Garappolo appears to be a young guy who knows the difference between things he can control and those he can’t.
Submitted for your approval, one Jim and Nancy Eggers, two restaurant critics, who are planning on spending a normal afternoon reviewing the Stockholm’s Restaurant and Brewery in Geneva. Little do they know they are about to enter…”The Stockholm Zone.”
Intermittent fasting is a term given to postponing breakfast and going without eating for a longer period of time between supper the night before and the first meal of the next day. Here is how it works.
For several hours a week I work at the Huntley Library re-shelving items. During this process, opportunity presents itself for me to peruse materi- als I’d not see while looking on my own. Very often I say to myself, Oh, that looks interesting…and then I keep it or jot down the info. I’ll share some with you that pique my interest.
On the morning of July 8, the Sun City Clippers (age group 70+) and Sun City Bushwhacker’s (age group 60+) left the friendly confines of Eakin Field to once again compete in the Six County Senior Olympics softball tournament held each year in Elk Grove. Both teams were sponsor by Chris’ Lawn Care Service. The 70s were managed by Glenn Groebli and the 60s were managed by Gary Krewer
I need to do some minor paint touchup on interior doors and moldings on our 10-year-old Dearborn model. The original touch-up can of paint provided by Pulte has long ago dried up. The can had no brand name or specific color, although I believe it was called “antique white” and it appears to be a semi-gloss finish. What brand and color would you recommend I buy to try to match the original color interior trim in my house?
Playing games while driving in the car has always been fun for our family. While traveling to Grayslake earlier this summer, we invented a new game. It is called ‘Dead Ash’. The concept is that whenever you see a dead ash tree you try to be the first to yell ‘Dead Ash’. Fortunately and not surprisingly, I won.
Letters for the week of September 10.
JP Morgan says pickleball is ping-pong on steroids. That’s Sun City’s JP Morgan, not the 19th century tycoon.
The biggest mistake a writer usually makes when writing about personal grief or an experience that produces heightened emotions is writing about it too soon. What flows is usually deeply personal and doesn’t make much sense to readers in general. Moreover, the spilling of emotions can make people uncomfortable. At the time of writing this, the hurt of losing our dog is still fresh, but I strapped on my journalist cap and did my best to keep the experience of euthanizing our dog as “journalistic” as possible.
Lauren Lee’s open door in Sun City is closing on September 4.
Bill Berendt came to the Sun City board of directors meeting August 19 planning to begin preparations for returning to the board next January as a newly elected member. He left the meeting as a member of the board starting immediately.
Many seniors resist taking a long ocean voyage due to their fear of unprecedented weight gain that can occur on a luxurious ocean liner. This past May, my husband and I were determined to prove these critics wrong, as we approached our 6th cruise taken together/my 8th with nary a pound gained in the past.
The Women Marines, that is. On Saturday, Ann DiValerio, of Sun City Huntley, hosted a picnic for the Women Marines Association of Illinois. The group is dedicated to preserving the heritage of the Women Marines. The WMA also provides a forum for them to “pass the torch” to the new generation of Marines.
