Remember the quilt that was in the Sew ‘N Sews room? It needed some repair, so one of the ladies in the group, Ellie Sudduth, took it home, cleaned and fixed it up, but with their newly expanded space where the computer club used to be, she felt a new quilt could be in order. The previous one was then donated elsewhere.

The only job I knew was to clean the big stable that was in a cave close to the Inn. I loved animals and loved taking care of them – so, it was fun.

It seems that our new coach, Chris Hinde, is intent on strengthening Stingrays’ membership as a club, as well as helping us all to swim much more efficiently.

Railroad Club Sets 2011 Holiday Display

The Kishwaukee Valley-Eakin Creek Model Railroad Club of Sun City has announced the running dates for this year’s Holiday Display. Trains will run in the Prairie Lodge Social Lounge from Friday November 25 through Thursday December 29.

‘Tis the season to be healthy

It’s that time of the year when your wallets shrink and your waist measurements increase. As much as we look forward to holiday parties, many of us fear enjoying them too much, leading to the packing on of pounds. Indeed, the average American just consumed approximately 2000 to 4500 calories and up to 229 grams of fat from eating a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Hannukah, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day still await us! Studies show that most of us will gain at least 1 to 2 pounds during the six-week holiday season. This is a weight gain most of us cannot handle with our weight-bearing hinges already under stress.

Huntley residents honor WWII veteran

About 20 Huntley Residents traveled to Midway Airport to meet the Honor Flight at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 2.

Electronic Mail or email, as it is most commonly known, began in the early 1970’s and quickly spread across the business world. Catching up with Jimmy’s Charhouse

My guess is that many residents have been to our dining spotlight for this edition, Jimmy’s Charhouse of Elgin. It’s been a fixture on Randall Road for many years, but as we all know, restaurants change managers and chefs over time, sometimes quite often. So, our mission was to see if there’s been any radical changes in the quality of the food and service, new items on the menu, and overall healthiness of this dining establishment.

Turn the page … and keep motivated through life

Writing is difficult. For some it is an impossibility. For others it can take a lifetime to master. According to Daniel Levitin, in his book, “This is Your Brain on Music,” it takes 10,000 hours, or about 10 years to become an expert at something. Thus, it is no surprise that Sun City resident JoAnn T. Neis of N.11 has written a well-received novel entitled, “The Other Half of a Broken Heart.”

Why buy when you can barter!

We just got through the first mad dash of the holiday season – Black Friday. I couldn’t believe it when the retailers were opening at midnight on Thanksgiving day to start Black Friday early. There were some outstanding deals to be had at the additional expense of not getting to bed that night. Our bleak economy has us all shopping for the best deals. A renewed trend that is picking up popularity is bartering. Why use cash or credit when you can swap your “treasures” for what you need? You don’t have to hold a garage sale to sell your collectibles.

Instant hot water

Did you ever wish that when you stagger into the bathroom in the morning and turn on the hot water in the bathroom sink there was instant hot water like in quality hotels? There is a device that will fulfill your wish. It is called a recirculating hot water pump.

Library volunteer celebrates 96th birthday

Kay Harlow is an active senior in Sun City, a founding member of a senior breakfast club, and in her spare time volunteers at the Huntley Library. On November 10 the library staff and patrons helped Kay celebrate her 96th birthday.

Instead of the usual Geezer Moments, this time I have something different, but really the same. You say, what are you talking about, Sammy? Ever heard of “Baby Brain” or “Pregnancy Brain?” Well, I hadn’t until my personal banker told me about her pregnancy experiences, suggesting a strong resemblance to Geezer Moments.
