Huntley Radio update: We’re almost there!

By Dorothy Litwin

We’re just waiting for approval by the Village of Huntley to lease space on top of the water tower at Haligus and Kreutzer for the installation of the FM antenna and transmitter. That should happen at the Village Board meeting on Sep. 11, assuming that it will be approved, and due to the success of our fundraisers, the Grand Auction and Radiothon, we’re almost ready to proceed and order the FM equipment and begin the installation. Once that’s done, we will test everything, complete FCC requirements, and hopefully have our Grand Opening in late October.

Many times, Allen Pollack, Jim Carollo and I shake our heads in wonder that our dream is about to come true. On September 28, 2014, we will be celebrating our second birthday of streaming 24 hours, seven days a week on the internet. We’ve worked hard to get here, but we are mostly grateful to our board members and Advisory Board, our program hosts, the Village of Huntley, the Huntley Park District, and all our donors who made this possible. We want to reward them all, and as soon as we begin broadcasting on the air, we plan on doing so.

Everyday we’re working on adding new shows covering different topics. Scheduled to begin this month are two new monthly shows hosted by the McHenry County Conservation District and another one hosted by the folks at Pet Vet. As we add new shows, we’re continuing to learn, along with you, new information about where we live, what is available to us in services and interesting places to visit. Please visit our website at www.huntleyradio.com or www.facebook.com/huntley radio and look at our schedule to see when these new shows begin. In the future, we will bring you shows about Finance, Nutrition, and more.

Did you know that Huntley Radio, in addition to its Executive Board, also has an Advisory Board that has helped the station in many ways? I’d like to introduce you to both boards. Members of the Executive Board are Allen Pollack, Executive Director, Dorothy Litwin, Director Program Development, Jim Carollo, Technical Advisor, Bill Geheren, Treasurer and Ann Knipp, Director of Youth Programming; our Advisory Board members are Dave Johnson, Village of Huntley, Thom Palmer, Huntley Park District, Dr. John Burkey, School District 158, Kelly Hazenfield, Centegra Health System, Carole Lowery, Chase Bank, Joseph Loughlin, retired WGN-TV executive, and Orion Samuelson. These twelve board members, our hosts and donors have all made Huntley radio happen.

As we begin our next phase of broadcasting, we’re adjusting our programming schedule to recognize your possible listening interests. We hope you like the new plan. If you have any suggestions for programming or ways we can improve our service, please go to our website. ONWARD!
