People are upset with our EMTs in Sun City. I want to say that we have lived here for more than 10 years and

we have made five 911 calls. Two were very minor, but in every case, the EMTs (paramedics, fire department, and

police) were excellent!!!!Ā  The last time we called, it was serious and I was taken to emergency. They knew what was causing my problem, and it was confirmed in emergency by the doctor when I was admitted.

We could have not asked for more. I read stories about people driving a golf cart into a swampy areaĀ

and a 90 year-old calling 911 – both were unhappy and unsatisfied. And people responded against the EMTs

on hearsay only. Maybe there were reasons that the EMTs reacted as they did – and then again, maybe not.

In any case, we love our EMT department and would not hesitate to call them again. In closing, we cannot, and I hope others cannot, make comments on HEARSAY instead of actual facts. Our experiences are real – no hearsay.

Thank you,

I have just read the comments about the way Dr. Zamir was treated while trying to help one of his patients. Doctor ZamirĀ is one of a kind. The kind of man you would want by your side in an emergency. That was just what he did. What Doctor would scale a ten-foot drop to be by his patientā€™s side? I cannot think of one, some so-called doctor in leather Gucchi loafers and Christian D’ior suit? I highly doubt it. This man has been my Doctor for 10 years, and I have never had someone care so much about my wellbeing. IĀ can’t believe heĀ wouldĀ be treated in such a manner.

Driving into or out of the Sun City community is a sight to behold. Nature, along with help from Del Webbā€™s early planning and meticulous landscape maintenance, challenges the brush strokes of any artist. Itā€™s an absolutely beautiful entrance way to our homes.

Beyond that serene setting there is another world in Sun City, not quite as visible, but very important to sustaining and maintaining the entire community. Itā€™s all the people who set the policies, carry out those policies, manage the money it takes to make it happen, plan the activities, organize the clubs and activities, and on and on.

No technology or computer application is available to handle it all. Its people who do the workā€¦paid personnel and resident volunteers, people at every level: board members, management, support staff, advisory committees, clubs, and outside vendors. It adds up to dozens of people.

The recent unexpected resignations of two Finance Committee members and the resulting loss of their expertise and experience are just a few of the many changes in the revolving door of Sun City personnel changes that occurred in the last 18 months. Other than the fact that vacancies exist, the reasons for the resignations of the Finance Committee members remains unknown, at least unknown to the community at large. Without a personnel ledger to use as a resource, an unofficial turnover count for all types of reasons including positions ranging from maintenance staff to top management, volunteers and paid staff, may be as high as 20 and higher.

The reasons for all of the personnel changes were varied: death, term expirations, firings, staff restructuring. Who knows why someone decides to leave on his or her own or at the request of management. Popular reasons why someone leaves a position include: health, to spend more time with the family, a better paying job, relocation, whatever. Some of the other politically incorrect reasons are never reported: working conditions are poor, relationships with supervisors cause friction, or the more candid reasons such as ā€œIā€™ve had itā€ or ā€œIā€™m out of hereā€. Some of the many reasons have no basis, others do. Only the departing personnel know the truth. Who needs to know? Who cares to know? It doesnā€™t matter much until the replacements prove to be sub standard. Only time will verify the results.

The loss of staff, management, or committee members may or may not result in the loss of skill and experience, but when that loss is real, the replacement process is a real challenge.

We can only hope that the revolving door of change will maintain or improve the Sun City Huntley phenomenon that has flourished for fifteen years.
